just wondering really what is thought of as the best size horse for eventing, I know talent and attitude play there part to.....

I dont think it makes any odds!! Some smaller horses have bigger hearts then the bigger horses!!!

I think the average size is prob 16.1hh - 16.3hh

I personally prefer ickle horses, as in my experience they can be quicker thinking.... but then mine has grown to 16.2hh

Generally in the 16hh-17hh bracket!!

Generally 16-17hh although smaller ones can often do superbly but sometimes top level eventing is a strain on them

I like little TBs, but there is definitely a trend for top riders on big young horses.

Really noticeable at Oasby - all the big names were out in force with their 5-6 year olds in the PN class. Collecting ring was full of big, floaty warmbloods.

I've got one 16.1 and one 17hh. The 16.1 is nippy and clever with his feet. And the big one gives you a huge sense of scope, as if you could jump a house, and covers the ground really well. But he doesn't (yet, only young) feel so clever with his feet than the ickler one.

The only thing I would say against the big one is that as he's so big striding, he can take strides out really easily, so in my very humble opinion, they are a bit harder work and you have to take the schooling very seriously!

Like them both though, for different reasons.

We have 2 horses out of the same mare that both competed at 4*, one is a touch over 15.2hh and the other is 17hh. Would guess the average is 16.1hh.
