I know lots of you use them for poulticing and I want to get some but am not sure what size to buy. I borrowed some "newborn" ones from a pony owner but they were obviously much too small for a tb x id!

What size shall I get? :)

Depends what you want to poultice! I have seriously never heard of using nappies, what a sheltered world I must live in. Don't think I'll be swapping from Animalintex though, not expensive and you can just use the amount you need and keep the rest for another unlucky day!

I would have thought that newborn ones would be plenty big enough - you only need a square to adequately cover the puncture - you don't need to cover the whole hoof...

If not though I would just go up to the next size - they are all based on weight so just choose a heavier baby....

I agree with the above though - Animalintex is not that expensive and at least you know if does the job properly..

For my IDxTB (sole about 4.5" across, poss less) I use 8-12 months and put it up to just under the coronet band and stick tonnes of tick tape over the top and bottom, then fold down the excess and stick that out of the way. For a bruised sole I might pop a bit of a cut-up nappy for extra cushioning. I much prefer nappies to Animalintex - more up to the task, cheaper, easier to put on and sucks out abcesses faster than a fast thing!! And Boots own brand are the toughest and most horse-foot shaped!! Yep, the Ginger Ninja LOVES his abcesses so am all over this...

Hope that helps and your horses poorly foot is better soon!:)

Never heard of using nappies for poulticing before. I have a nearly full pack that my little boy doesn't need anymore and I was going to give them away - perhaps I should hang on to them!

My vet recommended nappies for poulticing.:) I used newborn for my pony, they were pretty big on her, wouldn't think you would need to go much larger even for a horse.

They are a bit narrow in the gussett area for the width of the hoof! :)

Thank you for the helpful replies :)

Have used nappies in the past, newborn for a 14.2hh cob, they are perfect for the jobbie! lol and the fastenings are purfect for holding it on untill its all Duck Taped into position.

Tesco blue and white stripey label or similar 'big Bertha' sanitary towels, with silver ducting tape for frog supports and punctures. Works a treat.
