Hii, Im 13, 5ft 4 and about 9 stone ish. I have desperatly outgrown my 12.2hh loan pony :( so i need to find a replacement but i dont really know what size i need and my mum and dad arn't partically horsey so they arnt sure either. I do pony club, general hacking and schooling and local shows in the summer. My friends mum recommended I get a 13.3 to 14.2 pony do you think this is about right? Or what size do you suggest?

Thanks :) x

I'm 5ft 1 (and a teeny bit :D ) and I look a sensible size on a 14.2, so maybe something around that? But then it depends on the pony/horse, if you find a fabulous ponio who suits you, and your instructor agrees...

Hope I helped :) x

It really depends on what breed you go for too. You could easily get away with a smaller cob as they take up your leg, but you would probably want something a big bigger if you want for a finer type. I would personally go for something around the 15hh, but you could get away with anything from 14hh I reckon.

I'm 5'4 and just under 9 stone and feel perfect on a chunky 14.2hh. I have ridden a stocky 13.3hh before too without issues- in fact since a riding injury i prefer stock ponies to tall lanky horses as I feel safe (had a TB before!). I guess if you want to jump maybe something at least 14hh to 15hh will be better in terms of easier to ride the stride etc and ponies can be quite choppy and you wont feel like your knocking jumps down with your feet.

When i was just 12 i got my 15.3hh and i was about 5.1ft, i am now 5.4ft and look good on him, possibly a little bit small, but good...
i would think you would outgrow anything smaller than 15hh+ quickly, which is why i went for something bigger so i wont outgrow him...
It does depend what you want to do though, i event, hunt, team chase and show jump a lot so needed a competition horse which would jump BSJA etc. if i hadn't wanted to do this i would probably have gone for a 14.2hh+ chunky type...

Well aged 11yrs my parents bought me my 14.2hh mare, I still have her and ride 18years later. I reckon I was about 5'4 aged 11, I am now just about 5'6 so a 14.2hh would be good in my opinion :)

My daughter who is 12 and about the same size as you is just growing out of her small 14hh pony and we are looking for a full up ,take up the leg 14.2hh. I would go up to about 15/15.2hh but this can take her out of some junior classses which she doesn't want .It really depends on the individual build of the pony.

depends what you mind doing really...
I went from an 11.1hh straight onto horses - horses being a 14.3/15hh mare mind you :p when I was 12, so went from not competing ever straight into senior classes! :o 14.3 was fairly wide, I now have a 15.1 (and a bit!) who's very narrow, they both suited my height quite well (5'4)
If you don't mind missing a few years doing junior classes, I'd go for something 15hh+ so you don't have to change in a few years really... just personal opinion though
