I'm taking Teddy to a show in November, and when at a car boot sale recently (taking Teddy round to get used to a busy atmosphere) saw a brand new light-brown leather lead for £3! So bought it and was thinking if it would be ok for showing? Teddy's a blue and tan Border Terrier puppy and we're going to a Midland Border Terrier Club show. Will the lead be ok and should I get him a plain light-brown collar to match or I've seen show dogs with collars with thin chain on them? Which is correct? Or is the lead wrong? Please help

you get longish fine chains for showing, either that or you get fine leather slip ones. you are better with a thin lead that you can roll into the palm of your hand. I use a puppy lead for showing and the fine gold chain for showing my Dobermann. they need to be really well trained for the show ring and not pull on the lead. have you not been taking hom to ring craft classes. I think you might be better with the leather one for borders. i think they 'string them up' in the showring. I free show mine but she is really well trained to stand for the ring.
eta, yeah any of the ones in the link that ginab posted.

The correct show lead for a Border Terrier is a plain leather slip lead, the bottom of the lead is the slip part with an adjustable stopper and it joins the top bit that you hold. You shouldn't use a lead and collar.
