What sort of horses do Wintecs fit?

On my local horsey group someone is selling a wintec dressage saddle for a price too good to miss. I know you can get the different gullets but I was just wondering what type of horse they fit?

My horse is incredibly narrow with average size withers. I would obviously be getting the saddle fitter out to check fit as I need 2 other saddles checking any way. But I don't want to waste my money and buy something that may not even fit.

They always fitted my tb brilliantly - also the ideal gp/Jeffries hawk events fitted super too. However other types such as thorogood/maxam types and GFS Fieldhouse weren't any good at all.

I would say the would suit horses that don't have a high wither. To me the tree seems quite shallow iyswim. :)

Could you arrange a trial? If not and too good a bargain to miss I would buy it and if no good sell on? They always seem to sell well.

Mine is currently in a ideal event VSD and that fits him perfectly. I don't know if the seller would let me arrange a trial but I think I may go for it! It's brand new so it really is a bargin!

If it doesn't fit mine and I don't really use it I'm sure there will be someone else that wants it

Mine is in a wintec ap pro, thorowgood trees were completely the wrong shape - this is him......

Thanks for the picture, he is very handsome :)

My horse is finer than yours but the shape of his withers look very similar to yours so I'm guessing it will fit but then again I will get the saddler out to check it

My tb has a huge shoulder and withers and his wintec fits him perfectly, the thorougood changeable gullets were too long and don't allow enough room for his shoulder to move right.

I have a 16.3 wb and his wintec fits perfect. for all his size, he is in a medium narrow high wither wintec gp saddle. it has extra pads in the front and back.

They suit TB type shapes the best. They are no good at all if the horse has a wide flat back.

Funny you should say that, I would have agreed with you about four years ago as I just yo have to ride my welsh mare with no withers, wide flat aback and saddle constantly moving up her neck so had to ride with a sticky pad.

Found a wintec/chair fitter near me and got her out to have a look, she changed her plate from a black (which my old fitter said she needed) to a white and put some little risers in and now I can ride her in it with out a saddle cloth and it doesn't move.

It's all about if the saddler who comes out knows how to fit them as they are supposed to be a specialist fit.

Funny those who say they don't fit cobs/natives! I had a griffin on my cob and a thorowgood on my Welsh and they fitted fine!

I've used Wintecs on cob and hunter types without any problems. However my saddler specialises in Wintecs and I have had reflocking done. The only problem I ever had was a Thorogood not fitting very well.

I have a Bates which is the leather version of Wintec - it fits my razor withered TB perfectly - the best saddle I've ever had for her. However I got a wintec wide for my flat backed native and despite having it professionally fitted it was awful and I ended up taking it back - just didn't sit right at all.

ergh...can't stand a wintec...not because its not leather but they put this gurt big blocks in the knee roll and the whole thing is really chunky.

if it fits/works for you get it but personally i've never had any success with them.

If you asked me a year ago I would have also said these are best for thoroughbred types. However after a variety of saddle fitting disasters including buying a lovely show saddle that was fitted but still goes up my ponys neck as do treeless saddles, and a no show from a saddle fitter on thursday after I had booked a day's annual leave for the fitting (v.cross) my husband pursueded me to try a wintec vsd.

Much to my astonishment the x wide white gullet is too wide for my mount she is a medium wide to wide. The saddle fits her fine, sits behind the points of the shoulder as they rotate and she moves well in it.

Is she a TB? Nope, she is a 13.3 HH fell pony, my non horsey husband had noted that she was what he termed a pear shape, narrow at the shoulders and the top of the back with a big belly ! It suits the saddle, I think this goes to show that advice relating to specific saddles for specific types should be taken with a pinch of saly as with anything to do with horses as even within the same breed they are all so different!

This. You can widen the front all you like by putting wider gullets in, but it won't widen the middle/back portion of the tree. Horribly unstable on wide flat backs.

I have a Wintec Medium Wide GP on my Dales x cob but she is quite narrow for a cob and does not have a flat back. Tried a Thorowgood on her first but that didn't fit at all.
