What sort of turn out do your cushings horses have?

My NF mare was diagnosed with cushings a year ago and is on 2mg pergolide a day. I treat her pretty much as normal, she is ridden most days and is turned out with the other horses daily in a "normal" field.

I just wondered how many of you (and whether I should be!) muzzle your cushings horses and/or really restrict their turnout, either by really limiting the time they are out or turning out on bare paddocks? The reason I ask is I was wondering if I have just got away with being lucky by turning her out like I do - she's not on lush grazing and at the moment is out for no more than 4 hours a day but she's not muzzled. She'd be miserable being out on her own so I have to turn her out with the others but do you think I should either be muzzling or restricting grass/turnout even more?

Sorry, all a bit long winded but hopefully you've got the general idea of what I'm trying to ask!!! ;-)

Mine is out during day from 6am-6pm muzzled on not very good grazing.
I have to say you are running a risk even for just 4 hours on grazing with a Cushings.. i personally would not risk it, i would rather mine be out muzzled than stabled with only a short time out.

Well mine is out 24/7 at the moment as the grass is so dried out. I'm lucky though she is on a little paddock that didn't get grazed at all last year and I put my other in for a few weeks to eat the good stuff. What's left is white long, old strands of grass which is perfect for a laminitic. Its more like poor hay than grass. Its so poor that I'm giving her a slice of soaked hay every evening which she is grateful for. She's 100% sound (aside from her ringbone) and there was zero sign of laminitis when the farrier came last.

I'm lucky to have this little paddock, but next year is going to be a whole lot more difficult as it will have been grazed hard by then

Well my mare is out from 7am to 4pm on medium to poor grazing and then in starvation paddock with hay over night. I'm worried now, will check with my vet when she comes on Tuesday
