i want to breed from my cob mare she is approx 14.1hh coloured and a dream in everyway, cheeky but fantastic natured.she jumps for fun and has all ages ride her in fact she has been good ever since i got her at 2 yrs old.

i want to breed something like her but maybe a bit lighter to be a pc allround type, colour not a priority.
her only faults i'd say is she is slightly pigeon toed ,this is only noticable when her feet are long.
she also dishes which i think the pigeon toes doesn't help.

what stallion would you put her to??
local to norfolk as i don't want to travel her far or really AI her

TRAD COB-could still dish(we have a 2yr colt not proven yet)

What about Alderfarn ( http://www.equineservices.co.uk ) He's throwing some lovely stock and I've seen quite a few (including my own) out of all kinds of mares and all the foals are quite light boned and all have excellent temperaments, etc. Pretty reasonable stud fee too at £250 NFFR. Are you thinking for next year??

If you're looking to breed performance ponies with that mare then I'd certainly go down the Connemara way, personally. You should get excellent temperment and ability plus a good looking animal as a plus! But then I'm as pro Connemaras as SSM is with Cleveland Bays!

If you are looking to breed a performance pony from a cob mare you need blood pony imo, my old JA would have been perfect, he covered everything from welsh A-Ds, connies to *cough*big fat hairy*cough* cobs, and he has had stunning ponies out of all of them and they all jump and all have excellent temperaments, perfect childrens ponies, so I would look for a blood pony, Arab (competition bred lines rather than just pure showing lines) or a TBx pony. Crossing a pure native to a cob will come out too heavy imo.

Blimey, why does your mare have to be tethered ??

can't answer that - but that's a stallion

Aimbry (SP?) Chester would be nice with her. Personally, I'd look at the Sports Pony Stud Book Stallions. I agree with (was it HorseGroupie?) re. the native to cob thing. Although I love Connies, you'd have to be carefull that the one you used didn't carry too much ID in it - more TB or Arab (all 3 breeds were used a few years back to 'improve' the breed - I'm learning all about Connies, as my new YO breeds and shows them).

I have to say though, that I do like you Trad. Cob Colt!!

I was refering to my old JA that would have been perfect, Ousbek - pure Arab, but he is no longer with us and I am keeping the monopoly on the small amount of frozen we have.
However Georgeo is related to him (*cough* distantly!) George is 1/2 Arab 3/8 Pinto 1/8 Oldenburg, it a very interesting cross and very sucessful but he hasn't got a foal on the ground out of a volumtulous mare yet so can't tell you what you would get! He has just covered his most rotunned lady and that was an ISP he also has a Welsh D infoal for next year which I can let you have piccys of when its on the ground if you like, he does in hand (depending on the height of the mare) and he does AI.

I would agree with Horsegroupie that a blood pony would be best if you're looking to breed a more athletic foal for performance.

Her George sounds like a good choice.

(Ousbek would have been perfect too - such a shame he is no longer with us.)

I had a similar trad cob mare booked to my Arab boy this year (didn't happen in the end cos she had problems and they couldn't get her cycling properly

). But he is mainly from showing lines, and as Horsegroupie says a competition-bred Arab would be more suitable - or a super part-bred like her George!
