What stallion would you use on this mare?

I really would love to breed from my mare in a year or 2. To,ideally, produce something for myself. That being dressage.

Im just begining to look into breeding as my knowledge is limited (have only ever worked on a dressage stud so more practical knowledge than theory). Its a long way off so I have plenty of time to get to grips with it all.

On a side, can anyone reccomend any good books about breeding?

Anyway, back to the point.

This is the mare. Currently 3 years old. KWPN. I plan to get her graded next year as I missed out this year.
Here is her pedigree-

web page

And here she is-

I know its a way off, thats if I decide to commit to this but,if anyone has the time, I would really appreciate an imput not only about possible stallion suggestions but reasons behind it as well to help me understand so I can make an informed choice.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

She's a beautiful mare and very nicely bred.

You must be delighted with her!!!! My 3 year old filly is a LOT less muscular and mature - your girl makes mine look like a wimpy baby

I have the same dilema as you and am tempted to breed from my girl when she is still young so she can be easily bred from later.

I don't know so much about KWPN bloodines but Gribaldi springs to mind as he is trak and would complement Partout in her pedigree. And Jazz came top of dressage stallion rankings recently, though I keep hearing he is quite hot so a lot depends on your mares temprement. I also really liked 007 when I saw him a Olympia one year. I don't know if any of these stallions would specifically complement your filly but they are the KWPN ones that sprung to mind for me

The world is your oyster with her really as she is so lovely!

Thank you very much I was wondering if anyone was going to bother replying!!!

She is a nice little mare really. I did quite a bit of showing with her during the summer and she was placed every time out. Her last show she came 1st and 2nd and that was county level; I was very pleased and a little surprised! lol

She is beautiful

I was also thinking of Jazz, but as Hollycat says he is known to be 'hot' so depends on the mares temperament. I'm not really a dressage person but i do like Fidertanz and San Amour, all three can be found Here.

She looks lovely.

If you are after a foal with a good temperament I cannot recommend Flemmingh highly enough. He throws wonderfully trainable babies. He died last year though so is only available by frozen. A very nice Flemmingh son stands in the UK. He is called Mooiman. Has a fabulous temperament, throws lovely babies that are doing well in competition (finals of the PAVO cup in Holland, National dressage championships in the UK) and competes at international GP himself. He could be a very nice match for her. He's also KWPN.

Oops, sorry, hadn't looked at her pedigree. Scratch the Flemmingh reccomendation! I don't think I'd line breed to him as you may get a horse with a long, weak loin.

She's a lovely mare.

If you can hold off covering her till after her KWPN grading you will get lots of useful information from the KWPN inspectors on what they think are her good and not so good points and if you ask them, they'll even advise you on which stallions they think will suit her. I always hold their opinion very highly as they judge thousands of horses and what they don't know about bloodlines you could write on a postage stamp.

From a much less educated eye, I would go for something long lined and and maybe with Ferro and Jazz blood as it'll cross well with the Flemmingh blood. One of the sons/grandsons like Metall, Special D, Westpoint, etc might fit the bill?

Thanks. I have no intention of breeding,at least until she is graded, as they may think she is crap and it wouldn't be worth it.

I LOVE Ferro. Have always wanted a Ferro baby but, looking on the site it says Poa for the semen and, like my mum always says; if you have to ask the price you can't afford it! LOL

Thanks Jaffs!

Much as I would looooove to see a Tobagoling from this gorgeous mare, I think Piaffe is looking for a KWPN (or at least WB) stallion, though - not an Arab!

Piaffe she really is a very nice mare - is your plan to get her out competing (as well as grading) before putting her in foal?

I hate to sound like a broken record

but I have a fab filly by K2, gorgeous black champion trakhener stallion and she has movement to die for! I would not hesitate to use him again if I had another filly who would suit him.

Yes I plan to the 4 year old classes next year and do as much as she will allow. Im in no rush to breed from her and, like I said, Im a novice so really want to make sure I know enough to, firtsly, choose the right stallion for her and so that I know what I am doing throughout.

I've not heard of this stallion but will have a look; thanks.

Another stallion I really like is Sambertino. My trainer has a mare and stallion out of him and they are lovely.

I have a Gribaldi/Samber mare in foal to United - Pictures will be posted next year I am sure, so you can see what a United Gribaldi or a United Sambertino might look like!

I have a Sambertino mare - excellent movement and temperament - a lovely dainty type.

LOL
How perfect would that be?! Oh yes please, lots and lots of photos. I haven't met anyone else who has a United baby.
