i have been offered a horse to breed from for a year. i used to compete the mare dressage and SJ and she also competed BE and BD (First Lady) she is 15.2, selle francais.
now i am stuck as to which stallion to use.
the mare has a large head (for all her brains) so i want something of a smaller build.
i know a very nice appaloosa stallion down the road, he is only 14.2. i would like to get a 15hh-16hh out of her. would you think this mix of breeds is compatible?
i was also thinking about a TB stallion near me, Jendali. i have seen some of his offspring and like them. any other ideas? thanks. sam. xxx

what do you want to breed?
sj, xc dressage, show horse ect- give us a few more details. I know alot of brilliant stallions that I have used or worked with.
Let me know

i was hoping eventer. the mare has stunning paces, but niver coverd the ground enough to go intermediate. so obviously would like to try get stallion which covers ground.
it doesnt matter, AI or natural. would be better a stud close as then can cut down livery costs.
are your colourds out of Albanny? xxx

ohh thanks teabiscuit, thats opend my eyes to a line i reall like but had completely forgoetten about. oh dear, more of a choice now.
what do you guys think about mixing breeds?
some say dont mix irish and warmblood. would this be the same for selle francais and appaloosa? what do you think? xxx

Have a look at the Romarnic Stud's horses - and they're nearish to you! (Google, it'll come up!)

Even Fairlyn Gemini, the Anglo, had one entered for Badminton this time and his stock really move so could be worth a look. I like the new young horse (by Gemini) called Romarnic Ranger and was very tempted myself if he had been nearer.

Yep
Albany has it all in my book-looks, movement temperament and colour. He has thrown champion jumping horses (burberry check) show horses and potential eventers- cant go wrong with him!!!

If you're looking to breed an eventer how about Med Night Mahout - he's by Jumbo but he's only 16hh, he's an intermediate eventer (2 point off Advanced), exceptionally nice temperament, throwing lovely stock - and he's in Berks (nr Maidenhead) so not far from you.

He's not mine or anything, just stands alongside my stallion at Cliveden Stud, so I know him quite well. (Mine's an Arab, so probably not really what you're looking for, although you'd def. get a smaller and prettier head LOL!)

do u like my head down position? lol. deep concentration

if you want something that covers more ground to improve the paces go for either a dressage horse with SJ blood or a SJ horse that have dressage lines.
the jumping blood helps keep the paces alive.
a WB or sports horse would be nice, prehaps something abit lighter and more modern than her..?personally i would look at something like catherston stud or similar.
