Other for me - I'd love to go but it is sheer cost which holds me back. I'd be brave enough to see if the horse could cope, and the jumping and galloping would be great, but I cannot justify the best part of £100 for a days hunting, plus subs and event in the summer, so it's a bit either/or for me.
Because I'm anti. Just dont agree with killing in the name of sport and before anyone says that its because I dont understand hunting let me just say.
I grew up hunting both mounted and working with terrier men. Was blooded at 6 and have probably been at more 'kills' than most would see in a lifetime. My decision is based on knowledge, not emotion.
Partly because my horse couldn't cope.....we cant even trot on the roads because of DJD and partly because of the cost.
I went years ago and had a really lovely time on a kids day (I was 16 at the time) was really fun, nice for a one off but wouldn't want to go weekly.
Other for me also - would love to go out regularly again but not as brave as I once was and also the expense on top of everything else is the deciding factor.
i don't do cantering/ fast trotting on the roads with mine so pick the hunting i do very carefully according to the area/country we will be in.
i event mine and that will always be the primary focus and aim with my horses- if i get a horse that likes hunting i will take it and enjoy it but it doesn't bother me if i can't hunt for a few seasons.
I don't want to fizz my little horse up, or risk her getting injured, and I doubt my back would stand up to a days hunting now, even if I avoided most of the jumps.
My horse cannot hunt anymore due to a heart problem, but even if he was fit, I would not be able to go often due to the cost. I would love to go out on a hireling but simply cannot afford it, its really expensive in this area.
