I was making Inkys feed this morning and have found a piece of glass in my HIfi lite. Its not small probably the size of a 2p but thats not the point!

Should i complain or do you think ill just get fobbed off??

What strange things have you found in feed and have you done anything about it??

Yes you should complain... I've never found anything in horse feed but I found a stone about the size of a 50p in my dog's food... Its a specialist food, so isn't cheap!! I emailed the company with my complaint and a photo of the stone in the meat...

One week later Mr Postman came knocking at my door with a big box of 24 packets of dog food and a letter to 'Mickey' my Westie saying how sorry they were for spoiling his dinner... RESULT :)

I found a dried out, flattened mouse in a bag of feed. Put the mouse in a plastic back and took it the supplier. They gave me a new bag without seeing the other one. As I had already fed the horse some of the feed before I found the mouse I finished the original bag anyway! No problems - thankfully!

Not found anything in feed but had a flattened frog in hay! It's worth complaining direct to company. I recently got in touch with a feed company as a few bags is had were a bit dusty & not as good quality as usual. A few days later they sent me £60 worth of feed vouchers!!

Nothing so far in my feed but I did find the back end of a rabbit in my hay bales once. A friend who had a delivery at the same time also found half a rabbit too. Thing is hers was the back end too?!

Not found anything in horses' feed, but once (many years ago) found a tiny caterpillar in an M&S salad! They gave me £25 worth of vouchers! And a very sincere letter of apology! ;)

Back in my dopey days of my early 20's, with my very first horse (13.2 pony, saved and bought her myself!) I was buying pasture mix, then oneday on opening a bag.....noticed shrivelled orange things, thought it was plastic, got cross, picked them all out then sent them to the makers (Dengie...? can't remember TBH!) and they informed me they were dried carrot pieces...

:D

I have found pieces of plastic sack in a bag of Dengi Hifi and my yard owner found a deflated balloon in a bag of D & H Fibregy. Both times we telephoned the company feed lines and recieved appologies and feed vouchers. I'd like to think that most horses would spit out foreign objects from their feed but you never know :-(

Found a very flat pheasant in a bale of hay once.

AS a wee kid forund something in my fish fingers that I shouldn't and mum returned it to company - we got a £50 voucher - and this was in the early 60's - worth a hell of a lot then.

Returned some scones that were supposed to be sultana scones - no sultanas - got a voucher. Nestle sent a box of different goodies when I returned a stale Kit-Kat.

Recently my cat turned his nose up at his usual brand of food and I contacted teh manufacturer as the packaging said 'great new look, same great taste' - I got a voucher for 2 bags and an apology that an ingredient had been missed on a batch. Neighbours cat ate the lot!

My horse cut her mouth on a piece of wood that was in a bag on Dengie, I complained and they sent me some vouchers and they said that the4 machine would only alert them if there was a metal object contaminating a bag of feed not organic matter. I got another bag of Dengie with the voucher and found a piece of rope in that one!!

I once found a load of little white cards in a bag of feed - each one had a little message on like 'help' 'get me out of here' 'I'm in a feed bag' etc. qutie amusing really!
no doubt done by someone with too much time on thier hands.

I also had some toy cars in a haylege bale, along with cadbury's biscuit tin (empty):)

I found a dried dead mouse in a bag of Allen and Paige quiet mix bit of a shock as I thought it was just a lump of molasses, rang them up to leyt them know and they sent me a £30 voucher for food. For some rason they didn't want me to send the mouse back to them.

When my horse had suspensory ligament surgery I used Bedmax and found some massive splinters of wood about 5 inchs by 1 inch thick. Spoke to them on the phone and they had a sales rep going past where we lived so they came and had a look. Was offered the option of either a new bag or 2 tickets to Burghley horse trials. Choose the latter, got free entry and a drink off the Bedmax stand when we went to thank them. Bargin

Once found an lambs leg in a bale of hay! Yo pulled it out like it was nothing! Had to throw the bale away though. It was horrible!
Luckly not found anythin in feed yet.

most definitely report it as there could be a whole batch contaminated and imagine the damage even small fragments of glass could do to your horses insides. I used to work for a feed company and one o the old guys in the mill told us a story bout a guy he worked with in a feed mill in the states that was shut down over a guys actions. They were letting this man go from his job, he seemed to take it real well, was happily working out his notice period all the time adding bits of wire/glass/oher random things to the feed to get back at the company for getting rid of his job! there was carnage and lawsuits over vet bills! Also heard of a similiar thing happening in a cheese factory here

I found a lump of glass, green, rounded like a pebble, about the size of a £2 coin, in a bucket of herbal supplement. The company gave me a voucher for a new bucket and said they were looking into how it got through their quality control. Heard nothing more.

Worst thing I've found was roughly half a full-sized deer in a bale of hay. EUGH! :(

I've had a rust nail in one bag of feed. took photo and e-mailed company, got some vouchers and e-mail with a nice apology, put me off buying that brand of feed though.

Worst thing i've ever had is with food though,my friend looked after my horse for a week whilst I went on holiday so I bought her some bottles of wine and a humoungous (SP) box of cadburys chocolates, she had 2 small children and a hubby, so told me that she waited till kids and hubby had gone to bed, she sat all quiet lights off by herself watching T.V. box of chocs on arm of the chair, glass of wine on coffeee table, you know the scene !! - after she'd eaten quite a few she took the box into the kitchen to put them in the fridge, put the light on, only to find MAGGOTS and loads of them crawling all through the chocolates, needless to say she puked up, her hubby thought it was hillarious :D

She didn't want to complain because she felt guilty to me, I sent them back to cadburys with a letter, they sent her a big box load of all different types of cadburys chocolate and a voucher, still makes me chuckle now when we talk about it :p

I found a completely flat freeze dried mouse in my Hifi, I wrote them an email and recieved 2 free bags of Hifi, im of the mind its always worth complaining abet politely and you normally get something back, but you don't loos anything by trying.

Half a dead rat in a bag of pasture mix. This was about 20 years go so I just shrugged, threw the rat bits and got on with it.
