Hellooooo

I'm wondering what should I use to make it easier for my horse to work when the weather's hot hot hot. What sort of saddlecloths/pads/etc do you people use and what do you do with leg protection? We're doing dressage (Novice), normally put bandages on, should I ditch them when it's hot so his legs don't overheat?

If you don't need them, why heat the legs at all by bandaging?

Only thing that is different about my "summer set" of tack is that it includes a fly hat as Maiden gets very sensitive ears with the flies. Still wears her Woof boots, sheepskin saddlecloth (though I'd change this for a sheepskin numnah if they made one to stop her sides getting sweaty) and the obvious saddle and bridle. She wears a thin fluorescent waterproof sheet if it's particularly cold or very wet and she has to have her rain coat back on when we get home.

The Welsh Cob is close behind and brushes, so always has something. I use Eskadron bandage wraps under the bandages themselves, which are good at keeping legs cool.

In terms of saddlecloths I recently got a Rambo Handy pad which has a special lining to wick away the sweat. It works well, my horse is much less sweaty under it after a ride. I try not to use boots, unless I am doing xc or something. it doesn;t matter how good they are they still heat up legs.
