Largest greyhound is driving me nuts at the minute, every time we turn the heating up to 21 degrees he lies there panting noisily all evening! He won't lie in the (cooler) kitchen as he is a mummy's boy who has to be with me if possible... as soon as I turn the thermostat down to 19 degrees he is happy, and I am very slightly chilly! Any ideas other than wearing extra jumpers and socks? :D

Once the fire is raging and the sitting room toasty Daisy begs to go to bed. So she merrily goes up the hill to bedfordshire where it's nice and cool. And then comes back an hour or so later.

I have no answers for you really other than I like to be warm!

LOL so do I Amymay - I'm sure he wasn't like this in other places I've lived, where I've had the temperature at just the same level! The other three are fine with it being warmer, guess he is being a typical unhelpful male :p :D :D

My two can't be hot enough. JRT will bake himself on my lap and staffy lies in sun (remember that orange thing in sky?!) until cooked...radiator a useful substitute.

In fact both refuse to get out of bed to go to yard if they felt it was too cold in garden when let out first thing - useful as I know how many layers to apply to my onion look when getting dressed ;)

Mine live outside in the summer and even in the winter stand by the door to go out when the lounge gets too warm.

You thinking hyperthyroidism, twiggy?

Brig runs hot and prefers the tiled floor. The youngsters will stay on knees until they can no longer stand it then migrate to the bed. Sometimes all three will cwtch up together, but rarely.

My hairy little border terrier feels the cold, he has a coat to wear at the yard when it's wet, spends all evening lying in front of the fire (a lap will do if no fire has been lit) and I've returned home before to find him shivvering on the sofa during the day. He has been known if bedroom doors are left open on cold nights to come and nuzzle under the covers for warmth!

Little terrier gets cold. She comes in shivering after a wet walk, sometimes even with a coat, and likes nothing better than lying directly in front of a roaring fire baking herself. Newfoundland struggles with heat obviously and spends most nights sleeping in the tiled kitchen.

Whippet likes to sleep under my knees till he's too hot, then about three minutes flopped on the cold floor, then back under. In fairness, due to eye-wateringly expensive storage heaters, the house is chilly so he does okay.

To overcome this, I've invented the heated sofa, which is an electric blanket on the sofa turned up to full. Its made fun of by guests, who then seem remarkably reluctant to move off it!

Could you cope with a slightly chilly house but very toasty bum by doing the same?! :)

Paisley I love the idea of the electric blanket on the sofa....!italian houses are freezing in winter...
My two dogs are chalk and cheese....big poodle likes a cool floor, little schnauzer likes it hot, under the covers if possible...
I recall we always used to teach that the a small animal has a larger surface area relative to its volume...so little creatures lose heat faster and relatively more, than a larger animal. When I had a rottie she would have lived outside if she could, she hated a warm room.

Cold, he happily (I think!) Lies outside in the snow. But then he's such a mummys boy he'll try to be near me wherever possible.

I think he's going to hate our new extension (kitchen/diner/lounge basically our lives!) as its got underfloor heating. I'm going to get him an off the floor orthopaedic bed for the day. Our hall and undetstairs will be tiled and unheated, and I think he'll love that. His big bed will be under the stairs, which is a perfect space for a dog den

is it a new thing? how old is he?

He was 9 years old last November, and no definitely not a new thing - in the summer the 3 girls are total sun-worshippers and will bake in the sunshine for hours (if we have any!) whereas he always looks for the shade or (usually) hides indoors, he is just a dog who likes to be cooler I think :)

if it has always been the case then he does indeed just sound like a hot bod, my new girl whinges at work if the reception door is left open and there is a draft but she copes happily at home when the temperature drops at night

Our boiler packed up at work a few weeks ago leaving us with no heating. Mid morning we heard a curious noise from upstairs - it was the resident greyhound roo-roo-rooing because he was cold, despite having his jim-jams on (a knitted onesie jumper thing). He had to have more blankets piled on him until he shut up. :p

Mine sleep in the living room during the day while the heating is off then slope off to the tiled kitchen in the evenings.

Awww bless BC that is so cute :) and glad to hear my hounds aren't the only ones to make that God awful noise :D

I have just read the replies properly and Paisley I think your idea is fantastic :) I can foresee me and the 3 greyhound girls fighting for sofa space, but I shall definitely adopt that idea, thank you :)

Sunworshippers in their youth, the original two, their permanent position when we were out (dog flap is long gone, I don't trust the youngsters!)

Bellasophia and Levrier- do it, you'll never look back! The only drawback is trying to get off the sofa once you get warm and toasty!

Imagine 4 of them all doing it together..... and it is sweet innocent butter-wouldn't-melt 12 1/2 year old Islay who usually starts them off :D It is just like the Hound of the Baskervilles when they are all in full voice :p

The hotter the better. Mine would sunbath until the metal on their collars became to hot to touch! However, my younger ones aren't do like to then go and cool. My black bitch struggles more than my reds.
