I have made small bale hay in my 2 acres (got 140 !! way more than expected) lovely organic meadow hay - it may have some thistles in the odd bale but no other weed at all and was cut and baled in the most glorious sunshine.

how much is fair to ask for it ! I dont have room to store it all and would like to take Dex out at the weekend but the trailer is full of hay !!! (not complaining).

I thought about £3.50 a bale if I delivered locally (taking into account amount it cost to purchase land, get it cut and the 5 hours of stacking and moving it last night to save it from the rain)! does this seem about right ?

That's very cheap. Farmers around here - Essex are charging £4 or £5 collected off the field, so if you are delivering as well.......

Not the first time I have been called cheap !!! haha !!

Trouble is I dont want to rip people off and think that if I got a good amount per acre hopefully everyone else near me did (somerset - we had a good amount of rain last week then glorious sunshine) on other hand I had to pay 4.50 in April and collect it myself !

hmmmmm

I've just bought 30 bales of last years at £3 a bale and ordered another hundred plus at the same price from this years crop delivered :)

Ask around at your local feed merchants etc to get an idea of what people are paying locally. Don't sell yourself short. I'm a bit like that - I think that it only cost me £x to make it, but I forget the rolling, harrowing and fertilizing etc that I've paid for as well as baleing it.

I have offered it out at £3.50 to a local lady and that includes delivery but that is only because my horse trailer is crammed full of hay and I was hoping to go out at the weekend.

it looks like we may be lucky somerset way - my neighbour has just told me she has found hay for 3.50 delivered too !!

fingers crossed that the rest of the country gets a good cut soon !!

near me [rural west midlands] small bale hay is selling for £3.50 off the field, collect yourself. Delivery charged at cost of diesel.

Ask customers to come and collect it for £3.50 a bale, cash in hand.

really sad I know but I dont want to advertise and have random people turning up for a few bales. If my local lady doesnt have it then a friend will get it for £2.50 a bale or I will keep it and hope it survives the tarpaulin covering !!!! lovely stuff though.....
