If you have a feed merchant open today you can get sachets of Virkon disinfectant (it's either Virkon or Virkron) that is excellent for cleaning or good old Jeyes fluid does a good job.

I use a disinfectant powder, that way the bedding can just go down on top of it, sorry I can't remember the name of it.

Isn't Jeyes Fluid toxic to ingest?

I love the stuff but I would never put a horse in a stable that hadn't fully dried out and was no longer smelly. What happens if the horse eats hay off the floor?

In this case, I'd use water only.

In the old days we used to dilute it and spray it on the straw to stop them eating it...

no that I would say it was a good idea but I love the smell of the stuff

Clean it, remove all dirt, then a quick wash with jeyes at recommended rate.
Shavings on the floor will deal with the rest.
You can't sterilise dirt, nor wood, just keep stables clean all the time.
