Follow up to Robins poorly hocks. Tonight his left one (which was a little swollen yesterday) was more swollen when he came in tonight. When I picked out that foot instead of putting it down he stayed resting it totally. I poked a bit. The swelling is more to the inside. Didn’t know if to ring vet again tonight or not. Spoke to vet this morning and agreed on 2 Danilon tonight then one twice a day till a couple of days before xrays. So I gave him the 2 tonight. He refused to finish feed (for a fatty he is picky!) so maybe had 1.5 in total.

If still swollen/more swollen tomorrow morning then I will ring vet again. Or should I give the Danilon time to kick in?

I don’t have a good feeling about this. It isn’t acting like a simple hock spavin.

I'd monitor, I think as you're x raying soon at most the vet will increase danilon, but if hes not keen to eat it an increase may not make any or much difference.

If still bad in the morning I'd call the vet for advice. I'd be inclined to cold hose it for 10 minutes several times a day in the meantime too.

He is happier in himself so hopefully the Danilon has helped. Hock no more swollen but no less either. He was desperate to get out then desperate to get back in after 15mins when he realised what the weather was doing.

It might be an acute arthritic flare up .
get the Danilon into him somehow needs must brain and molasses often works well you need to mix the feed up and then add the danilon and serve it straight away .

Ok I’ll feed him brain ?.

He had eaten last nights after I left. He is now on to 1 twice a day. He grudgingly ate it this morning usually garlic does the trick.

Grated apple and carrot added to a small amount of feed and moistened with dilute molasses/black treacle liquid is my failsafe for drug administration - unless you are very conscious of his sugar intake?11
