Briefly.....

1 extremely hairy and pure white (well he will be ) 20 yr old sec A (does not have cushings, just hairy and hardy:)).

In my keenness to take small person (9 yr old son) to more shows this year, we have entered a fun winter woollies show on Sunday. Pony currently looks like a yak with full beard and hairy legwarmers.

What should I do to tidy him up?

Classes entered include LR, veteran and M&M. This is meant to be fun, we are not aiming for the HOYS, but I am a traditionalist and will always try to turn out to the best of my abilities.

Thank you. :)

As it's 'Winter woolies' I would probably bath and furminate, but then I don't do a lot of showing and no nothing :D

well I clicked "stay in bed" ! :)

However, I would not clip as you might ruin his summer coat.

I would not bath if he's hairy as he will be hard to dry and it's not that warm yet.

So serious elbow grease to get rid of loose hair, trim beard, and trim heels.

good luck, have a great day.

Thank you so much - that's great. Always helps to have someone else's perspective. When I say bath, I really mean sponge the top layer of coat over with a warm wet sponge rather than saturate, then rub dry with a towel. He needs something as he is out without a rug in the day time and has hippo tendencies.:rolleyes:

In terms of legs, he doesn't just have hairy heels, but the whole leg has feathers, so I will do a subtle bit of trimming just to give them some 'definition'. I did quite a bit of showing with him when older son was younger but it was always in the summer so never had to worry about the hairyness aspect. :p

Use a tea towel in water that is as hot as you can bare.Wring it out and then apply to the coat this will lift the dirt without horse getting drenched !

Personally I would wash feathers, towel dry and leave horse in / tied up with a hay net whilst they dry.

If your doing M&M you have the perfect excuse not to do much as they aren't shown trimmed. A very light tidy up of the beard and some furminating is all you need. Native ponies have their advantages :D
