My lads field mate had to be PTS a while ago and now dispite my many attempts to cheer him up my lad is still depressed about the loss of his friend.
He has other geldings in the field with him, there are 6 others. I take him out for walks, I give him lots of cuddles, massages and treats etc and we have an aromatherapist coming to visit soon.
Does anyone here have any ideas of things I can feed him or do for him to lift his mood?

thanks

I think you are doing everything you can to ease his grief, poor man. You are obviously spending masses of time with him giving him all your attention.

Like humans, they all cope differently. Some will grieve longer than others and can be more deeply effected by losing a close companion.

I believe there is a homeopathic remedy especially for grief but I dont know what it's called. Aromatherapy is a good idea too.

Just keep doing what you are doing. What a lovely caring mum you are.

I guess just try to make life fun for him and not push him too hard ATM. Maybe go out for some hacks, or perhaps do some poles/gridwork in the school.
I think the massage and aromatherapy sounds great. Like the ohter poster says it is going to take time and you need to be patient.
Well done for being so in tune with your horse.

I dont know if it will help with the grieving your horse is going through how about a tonic to make him abit better in himself. Vi-sorbin is very good for perking the horses up and making them feel abit better.

thankyou for your supportive replies.
I guess its a case of continue as we are and just hope he comes through it sooner than later. I have invited a lady who does Reiki to come along and see if she can help him ( tis a long shot but Im prepared to try anything to make him happy)

thanks again xx

Bless him, but sounds like he has a lovely mum (ditto Llwyncwn), so best of luck

Yes, I second that. You sound like a fantastic owner. Good luck to both of you
