What to do - loan or lessons?

I have recently taken on a 4yr old. I am building up his fitness but we're not really doing 'real' work yet - perhaps hacking 2 or 3 times a week (one longer hack and one / two short ones) and one session in the school (1/2 hour max)

I have been sensible and found a loan home for my pony who the 4yr old is to replace as I don't have the time or funds for both ....

BUT ... I am so used to riding 'properly' 6 times a week (long hacks / fitness work / intensive schooling etc) that I am missing it already!!

I'm thinking I could get a part loan for 2 days a week or perhaps spend the money on lessons to refine my technique ready for when my boy's work starts to increase.

What would other people do? I know it may sound daft looking for a loan after just finding a new home for my pony - but I couldn;t afford livery / shoes etc etc for 3 (I have a semi retired TB too!)

I would go for the lessons. As you say, you spend enough on the two you have, so if you pay for a part share that would be more expense and added responsibility.
There are people out there looking for a free rider so that could be a line of inquiry too.
But the lessons may come in handy for when you do more with your 4yr old

I have recently had a similiar problem to you, having just got a Youngster and having nothing to ride as regular as I was and Iv opted for the lesson route to stop me getting rusty and to improve at the same time.

Another vote for the lessons route. That way you will be keeping your skills going and will also have the opportunity to ride several different horses.
