farrier came end of last week and pointed out that her tendon was swollen on left fore leg - it was the first I had noticed and to be honest unless he had said something I wouldn't have noticed so I don't know how long it has been there or whether it has always been there?

anyway, I have been cold hosing it but it is still swollen. Horse lives out 24/7 and doesn't particularly like being stabled. She is not obviously lame but I am no expert.

farrier said no need to get vet, it's probably a strained tendon and to cold hose.

I would like some advice please. I can get a photo tomorrow if it helps.

If its a tendon the horse is likely to be quite lame if he isn't then it's likely to be either old or it could be an infection that needs antibiotics - does it feel hot or has your horse had anything like a nick or mud fever?

Only way to know for sure though if you are worried is for the vet to see it.

Cold hose and call the vet after a few days, they can't scan until the injury shows properly. I would rest as much as possible until the vet came, if not box rest then only in the paddock, no riding.

My horse came in from the field last monday with a filled leg around the tendons, I called my vet and she came out the next day as I wasn't happy to leave something not knowing what it was. She had a tiny scratch and the swelling was due to an infection setting in. Because I caught it early, a 5 day course of antibiotics has cleared it right up. I was told to turn out as much as possible and to carry on riding to clear the swelling. The leg was hot, I would keep an eye on it and get the vet if there is any heat at all, there seem to be some nasty bugs about, and if it is a tendon strain, then you need to know what you are dealing with to proceed in the best way, so I think you need to have a word with your vet.

Firstly get the vet out .

If it's a blown tendon , get the aerborn Ice boot and use a few times daily

Also the equilibrium magnetic boots are fab ! My horse blew his tendon and after using these he never went lame on it again
