Well as you may or may not know, she took herself off boxrest when she decided to take off during a walk. Vet is fine with her being out.

However I now wonder what to do with her. Basically I dont feel that confident with her anymore. Although she is fine most of the time, she can flip or kick out without warning. This means that everything, from grooming, to taking for a walk, even going into her stable to pick up a bucket needs to be thought about (she has let rip with both barrels doing this).

So the options I have are:
Back her and keep her
Leave her out for a while to chill and send her away to be backed
Sell her as is
back her and sell her

TBH she will make a cracking horse for someone, but she needs someone very special who can cope with her mood swings.

I dont think this person is me and I would rather admit it than carry on thinking everything will be ok and something goes horribly wrong.

So thoughts please?

You are honest enough to say that you are not comfortable with her, she sounds a madame! , would you be able to back her or would it worry you, I personally would sell her

Sounds like you have lost all confidence in her, so I would probably sell her as she is.

I have. I mean I am still able to handle her when nessecary, but try to keep that to the minimum and tbh I dont enjoy her anymore.

She certainly is a madame!

Having seen how high she can buck I feel daunted about backing her now thb.

Had thought about sending her to YO's friend who is brill and used to stroppy horses. I was told that Amber was backed by Natrual Horsemandship methods, but I also learned that this particular trainer beats horses and hobble them (which might explain alot).

I guess in my heart I know I should sell her, but that I'm a bad person for doing so.

Oh dear......if you have had all the stuffing knocked out of you and want her backed, before you sell, then send her away, guess it's weighing up the costs as to what is spent to get this done and what she will be sold for......gut feeling would be to sell her on as is,which might be a nice project for someone who will except her mood swings....and will understand her.......very tricky, but, I'm sure you will find the right answer!

I would sell her as she is, she is only 4 so by no means too old to be just started, and I think its the best thing for you both as you know.

You need a horse you feel safe around, not one you live in fear of, and not one who is so unpredictable that you dont even feel comfortable doing the basics with her.

In different hands she could be a different horse, she is clearly intelligent, she just uses it against people it seems!

You deserve to have the horse you want, and I think backing her will just open up a whole other can of worms and dent your confidence further.

I would sell her as she is and find the right horse for you both hun.

It sounds to me as though you are not enjoying her, so I would sell her. You have had a tough time and you deserve to have some fun out of horses. Don't feel you are letting her down, imo you would be doing the best thing for her if you found someone who was happy to do more with her.
