what to do with mats

I disinfected my stable floor yesterday evening (not very well I might add!), and picked up some stable mats this morning. I couldnt lay them because the floor was still damp and hadnt dried.

But in the end I had to put them down (they dont fit perfectly and there are gaps because they havent been cut to fit yet) for a couple of hours because my boy had to stay in, as both of his fieldmates were out on a long distance ride.

What do I do now? Do i leave them down even though they dont fit the stable perfectly and the floor underneath is damp? I cant get up to the yard tomorrow morning so I dont think I can lift them tonight, and my boy comes in for a few hours every day for his breakfast and a snooze! (out 24/7 otherwise)

any suggestions?

They wont hurt if they are damp underneath.... I used to have to lift mine weekly as the stable stank otherwise, and I just put them straight back down.

Sometimes I just tucked the hose under one corner and let the hose flush out underneath

Lazy old me!!!

Lets face it, every field in the world will be damp overnight when the dew gets on it

They will be fine. I put mine down when the floor is damp beacuse I don't have time to leave everything to dry before they need to be coming back in.

When I lift mine I shake some Jeyes Dustbin Freshener down. One of it's recommended uses is stables and hutches! As its a powder it is dry and both removes the smell and is antibacterial. Best of all it is cheap. £2.70 from Tescos. One container has done three stables.
