Hi
I have a mare that I had to retire. Shes 19, and a couple of years ago she damaged her tendon sheaths in her front legs. Had surgery and rehab'd her back into work but it didnt last and we've spent the last couple of years, in and out of work trying to get her to stay sound out hacking.
Shes done nothing all winter other then go from stable to field and back again.
I took her for a walk yesterday and that was when I realised how fed up shes been. Yesterday she was striding out, taking interest in everything, she loved it!
I have a young horse that I bought to ride, and I have (not on purpose) kind of left her out, :/
Shes also a good doer so she could do with using calories as well as just spending time with me doing something.
So, she cant lunge (or do anything involving circles) she cant be ridden (although we may do some walking hacks if shes sound) but she needs SOMETHING
So Ill definitely take her for walks. Someone mentioned doing poles, but it would have to be none stressful on legs. I guess walking over raised poles would lift her tummy?
Ive also considered clicker training her to do something. But I need very low cal food to offer for that
Is there anything else I could do with her ?
