i have a gypsy colt whos 2, 3 in september we dont have turnout at the moment as the fields are shut i have just been walking him in-hand with some little trots but he is getting full of it 2night he reared up and nearly fell over backwards then tryed to run off up the yard when i wouldnt lit him he tryed to kick me the reared up again just wanted to know what you do with yours ?

Turn them out! Unfortunately they're typical kids and need to get rid of their excess energy. They get walked out maybe once or twice a week and I'll do a bit of desensitizing with them but on the whole they are just left in the field to grow and be babies. Why can't yours go out?

Nothing really! He just lives in a field with his mates, mooches around, sleeps, and eats stuff :D He will be showing in the summer.
Hes only been out of his field half a few times since last summer, for the vet and farrier really. Hes no bother at all :)

When are your fields opened up again? I bet once hes back out he will settle, its not ideal for him being in really.

fields are open 1st of may and hes a colt so can only go in the hlf hour field hes been good up to now the breeder who sold me him said he had been in and i really laid back he just as these out bursts in the 1st 5 mins then is really good

If he was mine - I'd look for alternative livery with turnout all year. I would also geld him unless he is super duper world class because he will have a much happier time on livery as a gelding.

ETA. My 2 year old (just had his b'day :D ) is turned out with the three mares 24/7. They're all in my sig below. :)

ah mines entire too. If he doesnt grade well when hes put forward Dr Hakkernakkerov will be booked though. Its much easier for me as Im not on livery, it would be hard from me to keep him on a livery yard I think.

hes due to be graded in march to but hes only one testical as i checked tonight

Whatever you are going to do with him it is unfair to expect to be stabled all the time especially at such a young age, if you are going to keep him like this then expect these high jinks.

I think finding somewhere that you can keep him out the majority of the time will be good for him, I think he needs to be out at that age not stabled so much, hes probably feeling frustraated :)

Another 2 months shut in 24/7 is not fair on any horse let alone a youngster that cannot be properly exercised. I would be looking for somewhere else to keep him that has appropriate turnout for liveries or at least an arena where they can get a chance to kick up their heels for a while.
If he is not gelded what sort of life will he have, shut in most of the time and for what purpose? If you do not have your own stud and facilities he is unlikely to be able to have mares come to him.
