I dont know if any of you remember/saw Jenbleeps post with pictures of me riding my 'borrowed' chestnut mare in the PG?

Any how, she is 16.2hh ISH 15yrs Chestnut Mare. Has a few problems in the past, been mistreated etc but seems to have got over that. She hasnt done much for a couple of years and I boxed her up and took her to the beach down the road and she behaved impeccably.

The question is my horse is now coming back into work after his injury and this mares owner has said she can no longer afford to keep her (not a rash decision) and did I want her?

She'll give me everything with her, all tack, rugs etc. And im not sure what to do. We have our own yard so livery costs wouldnt be a problem. She is a VERY good dooer so her feed costs are minimal and they would just share big bale haylage.

Just wondered what other peoples opinions would be and how other cope with 2 horses?!

Two horses is a doddle. If you like her and can have fun with her then I'd take her.

Sounds as if she deserves a nice permanent home.

My motto is the more the merrier

So long as you'e thought about the winter/have you got time to ride two etc

Happy days

I think you should go for it......I think you know what you are going to do anyway.

She desrves a lovely permanant home - you are getting on so so well with her and as you said yourself she doesn't cost much to feed......when having two horses the thing that costs the most is livery and you have your own!

Ohh how exciting for you

Can't help with the how do you cope with 2 horses question but if you are really unsure if you said no would you always look back regret the decision?

If you think the answer to that would be yes then I think you should go for it. If you find you really don't have the time to ride both you may well find there are a number of people out there who would like to be able to assist you as they are not in the position to have their own horse.

You obviously get on well with her..and she deserves a nice home..and if money isn't a problem I'd do it!!!
You don't want to look back at something you could have done but didn't...and have regrets you didn't take that opportunity.
Whatever you decide I wish you well...

I've got 9 horses, of which 6 are in work. If yo are organised having more than one horse isn't that difficult. It sounds as if you get on really well with her and you will probably think 'what if...' if you don't take her on. Go for it, I can tell you want to

looks like the decision is made then!!!

I did have 4 part livery horses at my yard plus mine that I used to do everyday and manage fine, now im down to just mine he seems to take me just as long!!

hmm, now to tell owner that I'll have her and she hasnt got to sell her. How exciting!

ETA: she comes with everything, literally so how do I justify a spending spree because of course she'll need new stuff!!

I found it did not add as much work as I had thought to have a second horse. I expected it to double but it was more like half as much again. If the cost is not an issue then do not let the "work" aspect put you off.

It seems this particular horse is in need of a good responsible home so I am sure getting a share of your attention would be better than getting the full attention of someone unsuitable. There is always the option of a sharer or part loan if the right person came along and you needed the help.

Just ensure that you bear in mind any potential health issues with the horse and try not treat the transaction any different than if you were approaching a seller you did not know...
