Basically my old manis kept at a livery yard where the YO has basically lost her marbles so everybody is leaving. He is 26 been there for about 12/13 years and for last 2 years been retired through artritis with his best friend in a field being majorly pampered!! My problem is he is a happy horse who enjoys going out (and coming in!) still attempts to run around but due to his arthritis soon regrets it, he is on pain relief daily (his arthritis is stable now). The moment he needed an increased dose or showed increased pain/difficulty doing anything he would be PTS.
However I dont know if its fair to stress him by moving him to a new yard where its going to be busier and less peaceful or to have him to PTS now while he is in a happy place and feels safe?

Any opinions would be appreciated (im sure many of you will think he should have been pts originally rather than being put on pain relief so please dont say that it wont help me now!)

In what way has the YO lost her marbles, is it affecting you and your horse, I would be reluctant to move an old horse due to stress but depends on what is actually going on

She has basically been having major attitude issues saying cant go up when we want etc, (it is diy livery!) she has been turning horses out that are meant to be in not done to mine..yet! Basically she has just become a major hassle to all involved, im just worried she will do something silly to him while Im not around. I agree with you though I am very reluctant for both options!!

Hmm, yeah, second annaellie's question. In what way has she lost her marbles? Are u unhappy? Is it an unbearable place to be? I would not want to move my horse from my yard in a hurry if it came to it as he is so settled and he stresses easily. You have to think about the actual process of moving him too? Is that going to possible without pain and distress?

What hours is she stopping you from going up? I can understand if she doesnt want ppl around first thing in the morn or last thing at night. Do you think she will get better if these others leave? Maybe she has a problem with some of the other liveries. Oh and is there anywhere else you could go to that would be suitable for his needs?

I can bear it for now but as i said above im worried what she will do to him rather than to me! I just find it hard to spend time with him which i want to do as he is my first horsey and deserves everything I give him!! Ino I can travel him without distress he loves to go into horse boxes as soon as a ramp comes down if he is wandering about he will be in. Although the journey will only be 5-10mins if he was to be moved, he travels to vets every 3 months for checks so should be ok.

She only wants people up between 8-9 am or 5-6pm. so make sit difficult as I used to go and see him during day as he came in earlier than that, and did my others at different yard later on. I can find him a yard that suits his needs, have a few friends who have stables at there homes so he can move to them if needs be. That is what im hoping for, they are going by end of this month so possibly then will improve.
