Hello :) well my boy has been out of work for about 4 months now and I have just for his new saddle sorted so we have been back riding for about 2 weeks. I rode in the school today for the first time and he was very disunited in canter on one rein but completely sound. So should I be worried and get a vet ? Ciro ? Physio ? Or should I just leave it and put it down to coming back Into work ?

Thank you
Xx

I'd imagine he is not very fit having 4 months off therefore finds canter a bit difficult. Was he off because of lack of a saddle or did he have back problems (or something else?) I assume you are putting him on a gradual fittening programme so he has time to build up his muscle strength again. Personally I wouldn't be cantering yet, but doing lots of walking for now to get him fit and strong again.

Hmmm, I would probably not try cantering for awhile, I would imagine the disunitedness is due to weakness. Spend a few more weeks building him up in walk and trot then you should find that when he canters again he is sufficiently strong to do so correctly. Was he disunited in the past when cantering? (Before his saddle problems?) It could be he just needs more schooling to correct it. I wouldn't panic just yet. Has he been disunited when you've lunged him in canter or does it just happen when riding?
