Hi,

Don't know what to do? Meant to be taking my yearling to her first show this weekend, have rang the organisers and its still going ahead although they have arrange for tractors to pull people on and off the show ground, so dont know if that is going to be the greatest first experience for her, especially if she has to hang around in the trailer to be towed on and off the field!
The problem is that she has been entered into a larger agricultural show on the 23rd August, so really needed to get out before. There is one more show she could possibly go to on the 12th August but really wanted to do both of them for the experience. Have tried to get her out previously but due to transport etc havent been able to.
So question is, what shall i do?
1. Take her to the show this weekend and hope to god there isnt loads of waiting in trailers to be towed safely away.

2. Forget this show and hope the show on the 12th will go ahead.

3. Not worry to much she'll be ok at the larger show
4. Forget about going to the larger show altogether

She does have a very laid back temperment but really want these showing/travelling experiences to be good ones

It really annoys me when people say that - is it really worth taking her if the ground is that bad?

I've seen the front of horseboxes ripped out by tractors trying to pull them out of sodden ground.

IMO really not worth it!

maybe forget this show, and take her to the bigger one just for the expereince?and not take her in any classes unless she is v calm and confident

I would be tempted to not go to the show this weekend. If the worst comes to it and she's left in a trailer being towed out of the mud by a tractor, it could really put the frights up her and you will have taken two steps back before you've even taken one forward.
At the end of the day, you have got all the time in the world with your girlie - she's a baby and there will be loads of other shows.
Yes, maybe there will be one on 12th August, which will be grand for you guys.
And if there's not, you can always take her to the larger show for 'experience'. Ie - if she is fine with it all, take her in the classes. If she's not, give her a walk around and let her take it all in then take her home again.

'Nuff said. There will be plenty more shows - let her early experiences of them stand her in good stead for the future.

I know you are all right, it's just really annoying that everything i have tried to do will this filly there has always been something that buggers it all up! Weather doesnt help, great british summer!!!
The reason i was hoping to get her out his season is that she already stands at 15.1hh and thought the more i could do with her at this age when she is smaller and not as strong the better!!
Her enjoying life and being happy with every situation is most important.

I would not bother...it will not be a good experience being towed out by a tractor...plenty more opportunities even if not this year...never rush these things it is not worth it.

That's horses for you! I wouldn't bother going to this show - you don't want to put her off for life
