I have just taken on a 2 year old cob filly that is a bag of bones. She is now on ad lib haylage and I've started her on a 5 day course of panacur. Feel really sorry for the poor girl, people who I got her from couldn't catch her and said she needs handling. Whilst I walked up to her caught her no problem walked her down Road to load her and she was fine, I think she is glad to be away from them. If she was yours what feed would you give her, I was thinking of slowly introducing alfa beet and fibre cube?

Even though the filly is a bag of bones ? I would agree if the filly was healthy but she isn't. I would ad lib forage, suregrow in a feed of fibre beet and fibre nut with a handful of linseed until the spring comes and grazing is available. After worming she should start to pick up.

I've started her on small feeds of alfa beet and fibre cube. But she doesn't know what feed is so at the moment is only eating a very small amount 3 times a day and she has unlimited haylage. She really is the skinny only 240 on weight tape she has no fat at all shoulder hips back bone all visible. Then this afternoon she has a snotty nose so just glad I got her when I did as I don't think she would of lasted much longer.

Do be careful!
Many years ago I bought a rising 4yr old, from the breeder who had sold her st 2 and then bought her back when she saw her in poor condition. She then fed her up quite quickly to sell on. She was a super WH type unfortunately she developed severe intolerances of all cereals and sugar, which seriously affected her behaviour. She never did fulfill her potential and spent most of her life as a very affectionate, easy to handle most of the time but completely unpredictable field ornament/ companion, because we could never guarantee that no passersby had fed her something that she really should not have.
I would let your filly build herself up very gradually by feeding her ad-lib good quality hay, with a balancer if you must, make sure that she is wormed and don't try to make up for lost time. 2 yr olds can look scrawny anyway but they grow out of it, as I am sure yours will.
