Hi, iv just bought a 10 month old warmblood to make 16.3, i was just wandering what the best thing is to feed, also she is not currently rugged is it worthwile getting her a lightweight waterproof sheet or not bother until next winter.

Thanks

Hi, thanks for the reply, just stud mix or mixed with something else? Yer shes been out during the days but thats all. She has got quite a fluffy coat at the moment but it is just starting to change.

I wouldnt start to putting a rug on her now, What are you going to be doing with her ?

You could throw in some conditioning oil, I am currently feeding our yearling stud mix , boiled linseed and soya oil , she needs to be ready by may as we are showing her inhand .

Stud mix should be sufficient , you feeding her hay ? haylage ?

I've just changed the feed of my young wb from yearling mix as the grass is comming through. Now feeding topspec balancer (doesn't need any other supplements then), topspec condition flakes and happy chaff. So far working really well as giving sufficient vits/mins and essential proteins for growth along with the condition from the flakes without having to give a huge feed! Most of the feed companies have free helplines - might be worth giving them a ring?

If you contact Baileys, they will send you a free pack of their products with measures, weight tape and growth charts. Similar to what children have when they see the health visitor as babies.

They do some very good stud feeds and supplements and are very helpful if you need advice.

I got a very good diet from Dodson and Horrell but all the feed companies will give good advice, you can e-mail or phone. They will obviously recommend their own products but, hey, you've got to buy someone's feed so why not theirs?!!

I feed my 10 month old warmblood x a round scoop of d & h suregrow and a scoop of alfalfa a day which is split into two feeds. This was the advice from d & h. Was told to keep her on this till she is around the age of 2. Being warmblood she is quiet a good doer so this feed is just suppling her with the vits and mins etc without putting too much weight on.

i feed my WB filly baileys stud balancer from birth to yearling(which she is tomorrow!) and shes not had any problems.
WB types can get a bit porky of mixes so i would steer clear unless she needs them.
if her previous diet was suitable and she isnt under or over weight i would keep it the same and possibly pop her on a balancer suitable for yearlings to 2yos once shes 12months(if the current feed isnt suitable)
