I've got a highly strung competition mare who i'm struggling to feed. She needs to maintain her current wait (although would be better to lose weight rather than gain it).
I've tried her on:
- slobbermash which was too heating and made her extremely fizzy.
-spillers cool mix and chop which decreased her energy but not her fizziness.
-baileys keep calm decreased her energy but made her dull and lethargic.

I'm trying to find a feed which will increase her vitality and make her a little sharper without unwanted behaviour/fizziness.

I also feed her on ad-lib hay and she's turned out for a few hours a week and ridden every day.

Thanks in advance!

Grass and hay and a bit of chaff with a balancer. Feed is to replace calories used during work to maintain weight. See how she is on that. If you want a bit more energy feed a few oats.

I had a bonkers mare that I put into livery for a couple of weeks with a pro rider while I went on holiday, to keep her fitness for eventing. He told me to keep her out and not to feed her any extra at all for the work she was doing. Good advice.

Get her out in a field, and don't feed to much. You will be surprised how little feed they need.

Although, I am guessing you actually don't have the turn out? Have you tried a supplement?
