I've got a 2 yr old Welsh section D, who I have had since she was a weanling. She is now a big strapping girl and looks v mature for a 2 yr old and is a typical Welsh good doer. I've fed her D&H suregrow since she was 6 months old, along with either hi-fi, or alfa-a when it was really cold last winter, she also had some outshine too - she lived out 24/7 all winter.

I've fed her one mug of suregrow and a handful of hi-fi during the summer, was not planning to continue feeding her but the grass didn't come through. Now we have had wet mild weather, she has loads of grass and has gone a bit on the tubby side, nothing major but obviously she is only 2.5.

Anyway, I'm pondering what to feed her over the winter. She will be living out 24/7 and will be getting round bale hay once it gets really properly cold, sharing with 3 others.

Can she stay on the suregrow? D&H told me she shouldn't be on that any more :-/ but I've noticed quite a few people feeding it to their adult horses? If so, what quantities? D&H said 400g of ultimate balancer with a handful of chaff per day over winter.

It is so confusing!

I fed Stinky, my gypsy cob at two during the winter ad lib hay (he has to be stabled at night and three days a week), plus a stubbs scoop of Simple Systems Greengold and one of Just Grass, along with a small amount of speedibeet. He also had linseed and benevit from Feedmark twice a day. Winter grazing is minimal and he would also have hay in the field once the grass had given out.

He grew very well on this, has never been fat and is now a nearly 15.1 strapping six year old.

I would ask all the major feed companies and see what they say, I did this to get help with my 16.3 ISH as he's more of a hunter type but was lean like a racehorse, I needed to fatten him up but correctly! I had two main answers to choose from in the end and it worked! Also they got back to me rather quickly. X
