What to feed my 3rd old after yr out...

In bringing in my 3 year old sec D gelding after a year of being out. Plan to bring him in tomorrow. He was in show condition when I turned him away and now looks like crap. What I fed him prior was build up mix (d & h), soaked barley rings, hi-fi and kwik beet 2/3 times a day.
So, do I introduce this back slowly? He will also be on ad lib hay.
After he's settled a while, how long before I can lunge him etc?

I don't know how to put pics on sorry. He's lost his top line and I can see his ribs at certain movements. His coat and feet are fine, farrier booked for a trim. Thanks
 
Pics needed as there is no such thing as "Show Condition" but you would like them to be in reasonable condition prior to winter. Having said that for a youngster a good worming ad lib forage with access to a mineral lick or a very small feed with a balancer should do the trick assuming he still has access to grass. My youngsters have just haylage and mineral blocks and are strapping event youngstock some well over 16hh
