Hi Everyone,
My dog had 9 pups earlier in the week and now has to be served up liver, sausage, eggs and chicken, infact any tasty morsel. I wouldn't normally do this but I don't want her milk supply to dry up.
She won't entertain biscuits or tinned food, she was a bit faddy before she had the pups. She's currently on antibiotics to fight an infection.
Any suggestions would be welcomed as to what I can feed her without having to resorting to a Full English (all day) Breakfast.
The birth was quite eventfull, watch out for my next posting - Miracles Do Happen!

We had pups five weeks ago and I had the same problem, and mine wouldn't drink either, had to give her milk and fed her eggs and rice. After a few days tho she got her appetite back and some and she was soon eating biscuit and tinned and drinking water again. She is currently eating five times what she was eating before to keep the milk. Nature will take over and she will probably start eating loads again soon. Good luck, enjoy those babies coz they grow up so fast these five weeks have gone by so fast.

When my dog have puppies my vet suggested that i give her cornflakes and milk, as its good for mummy and her puppies.

Chicken and rice, or scrambled egg (thats the way I did it) and rice, its easy on the tummy.

Vets recommend it for westies etc that have skin or sensitive stomachs

I have been there four years ago, I fed her four times a day and as much as she would eat. I had built up her food intake before hand.

They often go off food with the first litter, because all they can think about is the puppies, my bitch would hardly leave her bed for the loo and I had to take the food to her.

I would feed her mince and chicken with eggs, milk anything you can get down her. It's a big expense having puppies, people dont realise how much you have to invest in the bitch and the puppies for those eight weeks.

Good luck with it, the hard time comes when the bitch stops cleaning up and I would start getting everyone to save their newspapers for you.

Glad to say that we are back to normal, tinned dog food and biscuits - hooray. She'll still get the occasional cooked meal for all her hard work.

An old gamekeeper suggested rice pudding for a friends lab when she had pups and I have never seen a nursing mum look so good and well
