Right, I'm weaning my boy off the high sugar/calorie diet and moving onto fast fibre. Its not very palatable for him so what can I add that's not sugary ? I guess just pony nuts... But will this be complete?

He also has pink powder.

per feed 8oz unsoaked of fast fibre, and 8oz unsoaked of spillers or D & H hi fibre nuts. If you soak the high fibre nuts it makes a very tasty and much larger feed. Then you could add micronised linseed, salt and one of the better supplement.

I mix it with HI FI lite and basic horse and pony cubes for my TB, then he has pink powder and brewers yeast added plus apples and carrots (although if you are cutting out all sugar watch the fruit and veg!) Makes a nice satisfying feed with lots of fibe and fills his tummy.

I normally feed the fast fibre with Alfa a original chaff for summer as fast fibre is already balanced with vit and minerals and in winter FF and Alfa a oil and speedi beet if needed and that's for my 16.2 tbx warmblood

At the moment my old boy is going mad for Fast Fibre and unmolassed hay chaff .

However, all summer I have safely fed Spiller's High Fibre Cubes (even though he has rampant Cushings) and a few other barefooters have found this these cubes safe.

Other tasty additions that are therapeutic are

Fenugreek seeds (appetite stimulant) http://www.cotsherb.co.uk/culinary-herbs-and-spices/ground-herbs/fenugreek-ground/prod_613.html

Turmeric (joint aid) http://www.cotsherb.co.uk/culinary-herbs-and-spices/ground-spices/turmeric/prod_647.html

Fennel (bloating) http://www.cotsherb.co.uk/culinary-herbs-and-spices/whole-seeds/fennel-seeds/prod_693.html

Mint is also often recommended and it's dirt cheap and smells divine - but I've never really seen a horse go mad for it .

Ours liked it with Baileys Lo Cal Balancer last winter and then when it was really cold they had speedy beet too. When it was freezing we made it with warm water and they loved it.

Wow thanks very much everyone!! Lots of sugar free choices! Didn't realise there were so many sugar free chops about! Thanks for those links Oberon - the fenugreek looks worth a try! I could do with his appetite stimulating!! He's not bothered for mint, tried it!

When I consulted an independent nutritionist for my pony, she advised me that Fast Fibre was basically a quick soaking high fibre cube. I would therefore just feed it with a low sugar chaff.
I feed it with a low calorie chaff and Top Spec as I'm not feeding full rations yet. :)

I've just started changing my oldies diet around to be as sugar free as possible. This includes Fast Fibre and unmolassed chaff. She doesn't like it :( and has been leaving it.
However, tonight I added some Spillers High Fibre Cubes and she ate up :)
