I have a 3 yr old native mare that is looking a bit too lean. And im worried about her condition. She is on fairly good grazing is ridden about 3-4 times a week just mainly schooling and the odd hacking. I can feel he ribs when i touch her sides which in a way is a good thing. Any suggestions on what i can do?

I would ease off on the riding a little bit. I take it she's just 3, she still has some growing to do. I would be inclined to give her the summer off and bring her back into work again in the autumn. Also, make sure her worming is up to date and also get her teeth checked out.

no her ribs arent visable.but you can feel them. Iv given her a dose of wormer which she was due for. I personally dont believe in turning them away after being broken i prefere to ride them lightly and keep them going. But some people do turn them away and have there own ideas that work for them.

You should be able to feel ribs but not see them. many of todays horses are too fat so she is probably in good condition and slim anyway, and don't forget she will still be using calories for growing. You're best not to overfeed a native as will increase risk of lami.

I have always used the feedlines and never been disappointed, I use Dengie and anytime we up our training or change the training to include another discipline I contact the feedline and alter the feed accordingly, it always works for us
