Having struggled for aaaages to find a feed that gives Murphy energy and a bit of sparkle, it seems I have now found it by accident, and it is chaff lightly coated in molasses. Now I'm wondering if to change the other components of his feed?

He was previously being fed:
2/3 scoop of happy hoof
1/2 scoop of staypower competition cubes
Equibites
Carrots

He is now having:
1/3 scoop of 'lightly molassed chaff' (I am not naming brand name...)
1/3 scoop happy hoof
1/6 scoop of staypower (have been reducing this to see if his energy levels change...they haven't really)
Garlic
Equibites
Carrots

I'm starting to run low on happy hoof and staypower and am wondering whether to change them to (cheaper!!) bog standard chaff and leisure mix? He is on staypower because he was nlacking energy, but I don't think he needs it on this new molassed chaff??

Any otgher suggestions for what I could feed him alongside the new chaff? He needs energy and stuff to keep him healthy and happy, without making him fat!!

I really do not want to get into a debate on feeding anything with molasses in. I know some people don't agree....and I also know my pony and monitor his weight and condition constantly.

thank you

Maybe up the mollassed chaff to 2/3 a scoop, then stop feeding happyhoof. Also rather than staypower (which feeding at that small amount won't really do anything), prehaps give a balancer instead like bailey's lo-cal, and if you want more enrgy for stamina add a little oil to his feed, though not too much if you don't want him to get fat.

Have a look at a website called Thunder Brook - run by a lady called Debbie. She is really helpful and makes her own feeds. She may be able to help you. I can PM you her detials if that would be any help to you.

Good luck

Please could someone explain to me what a balancer does? It is just vits and mins? If so i think they're all covered by feeding equibites?
I used to feed him cod liver oil so maybe I'll start feeding that again
