My little chubby retired highland gets a token feed once a day for a check over and chance to give any supplements vits mins etc. I was happily feeding him a scoop of healthy hoof chaff molasses free but since he had choke last week I have fed a sloppy spillers senior mash. Are there other options that are better/less likely to cause choke and are complete? The senior mash is a complementary feed. Wondered about meadow nuts also? Would they be safe to avoid a choke? Well soaked of course. He LOVES the mash so I may cave in and just let him stay on it! Picture of the handsome little dude.

ForagePlus (as do other companies I'm sure) produce a powdered vitamin and mineral balancer that is very easily added to mashes, which ime are the best option for choke-prevention so that could be an option to keep on the mash he likes. I do it this way anyway, so that I can adjust the amount of feed I give based on work, season etc but ensure their vit and min needs always met correctly.

Veteran Vitality? My old Shetland (in his late 30s) did well on it. Other option is to add something like haylage balancer to his mash (I used to feed this regardless of whether they were on haylage or not).

Lots of the oldies at my yard are veteran vitality and appear to do really well on it

We were feeding Allen and Page Veteran Light which is a mash, mine didn't like it though!

Baileys do a senior mix which can be fed as a mash or dry, haven't tried it but they do send out free samples! I think it is the number 26 from memory.
