On Friday I had to have my beautiful dog put to sleep following his diagnosis of Lymphoma 20 months ago.

The vet that looked after him was an absolute star and I want to get her something as a thank you to show just how much we appreciated everything that she did for him. Nothing was ever too much trouble and she was even prepared to come in when she had a week off work and put him to sleep as she wanted to be the one that did it.

I’d like to get her something special but am stuck for ideas. Any ideas on what I could get? Am prepared to spend up to £50.

Will also be taking biscuits and sweets etc down to be shared among all the staff as they were all fab and according to the vet several of them were in tears on Friday when we took him in!

Any ideas would be gratefully appreciated.

From personal experience, the cost isnt important. Neither is the actual present. The fact that you`ve gone to the effort to buy something special is what means the most.

I always think a huge bouquet of flowers goes down very well .... although it may seem old hat I don't think you can go far wrong. Everyone can enjoy them at the surgery then, dinner would be expensive for all!!

I would send a card and a huge tin of roses to all of the staff - you dont want to appear "keen" in any way shape or form and unfortunalty it has been know for clients to get a little bit fixated on someone whom has shown a lot of care in an animal. I am sure this does not apply to yourself but i have been on the receiving end of unwanted gifts from clients with an ex.

I think the thank you card that you include with a few personal words in it will mean the most to them

Choccys, wine or flowers all get my vote. Although do remember its possible they'll get lots of chocs to plough through in the next month, so maybe a nice tin of shortbread or similar instead?

A client bought a lovely bunch of flowers and a card for one of my colleagues a few weeks ago, in a very sinilar situation to yours, and she was delighted. The card is still up in the practice and we were all touched by the gesture.

agree with fatpony its a lovely gesture just to show that you appreciated how they acted and im sure what ever you do will be appreciated.
Flowers and a card are generally a good bet...adding a picture of the pet involved is usually done in the practice at home and all the pics of the pets are put in a colage on the wall.
Sorry to hear about your loss

Thank you very much to you all for the ideas – there have been mentions of things I hadn't even thought about!

I definitely don’t want to look like some crazed stalker but just want to let her know that everything she did was appreciated.

Thank you again for your help!!

Thank you for all your kind words as well. He was a very special dog and is really missed!

We were very lucky to have an extra 20 months with him following his diagnosis as we never expected him to last this long and still be happy with life!

Think the idea of a donation to their chosen charity is a fab idea - I'd not even thought of this!
