On Friday I had to have my beautiful dog put to sleep following his diagnosis of Lymphoma 20 months ago.

The vet that looked after him was an absolute star and I want to get her something as a thank you to show just how much we appreciated everything that she did for him. Nothing was ever too much trouble and she was even prepared to come in when she had a week off work and put him to sleep as she wanted to be the one that did it.

I’d like to get her something special but am stuck for ideas. Any ideas on what I could get? Am prepared to spend up to £50.

Will also be taking biscuits and sweets etc down to be shared among all the staff as they were all fab and according to the vet several of them were in tears on Friday when we took him in!

Any ideas would be gratefully appreciated.

Iusually get our male vets booze

and the females, a huge bunch of flowers (the posher looking ones with water in the box)

they cost me about £35 which was cheaper than the cruciate repair she did on my dog

I got the vet and vet nurse team loads of bottles of wine to thank them when they amputated Ellen's leg - she was in hospital for about 2-3 weeks. I like to think they had a good party

Just a card to say thank you would be enough - with some chocs or wine if you want to. Things to keep aren't really so useful unless you are very close to the giver. imagine everyone gave gifts to keep, she'd be out of house room in no time

Thank you for all the ideas.

I was thinking along the lines of flowers for the vet and then biscuits and chocolates to be shared among all the staff. I just want her to know that everything she did was appreciated but without looking like a stalker!

Thank you again for your help!

Sorry to hear about your loss but it sounds like you couldn't have asked for a better vet.

I work for a Vet Surgery and everyone loves a tin of chocs, hero's or similar go down well ususally.

As for the vet herself certainly a card and what about a really nice pen (Parker biro or similar?) they always need a pen, a small vase to go with the flowers or some wine glasses to go with a bottle? Am sure you can get one of those for £50 max and it would be a lasting reminder that all her hard work is appreciated. Don't think they are stalkerish as long as you're card conveys the right message.

I believe vets are always immensely thankful for any gifts they receive.

Thank you for your kind words. He was a fab dog who I miss so much!

We couldn't have asked for me from the vet as she really was excellent, as were all the staff at the surgery that we came into contact with during his treatment.

I like the idea of giving her a vase with the flowers as then she will have something to keep without it being too personal/stalkerish!!!
