Hello everyone.

I am now the lucky owner (On loan, looking to buy) of Darcy :) A bay colt.

Absolutely well behaved and very funny, so pleased! It has been a life long dream to have a horse.

Now I want to make sure I am doing everything right for Darcy and myself so everything was ordered and prepared months ago... just need insurance.

I do not know where to start? What do people look for when purchasing both rider and horse insurance? oh and public liability.

What do you look for to ensure you are with the best company for you and your horse?

It's my first time and I want to know I am going to get the best for Darcy, any help would be gratefully received.

Thank you

Sally and Darcy

Talk to one of the advisors at Julie Andrews insurance, they will be able to quote and explain the different cover.

I look for limits (like vet cover), exclusions and excesses. Public liability is usually recommended at a min of 5million now and colic surgery could set you back 5k, some people will say just do liability and put the money away!

Congratulations on your new partnership!

Congrats on your new horse!
I have mine insured for vets fees and third party but wouldn't bother with death or loss of use as insurance companies know every trick in the book to avoid paying out for it!

Also make sure that you get one that pays out! Speak to your vet for companies to avoid.... they know which ones pay out! There is one that always advertises in H&H and other horse mags that has a reputation for not paying out so beware
