how am i ever going to learn..................................

Go with someone who knows what they are doing and get them to explain what they are looking for. Really you have to have a horse in front of you to do this. I assume that your friend doesn't want to show in hand for the horses entire life so you will need to consider what the horse is to be used for and you may or may not need to consider the breeding. There are a hell of a lot of other things too and to be honest I would be a bit worried about someone buying a three year old if they don't know what to look for or have a knowlegable person to go with them and advise in the future
they know what there doing they have 3 healthy event horses as it is, she wants me to go with her as she dont want to go alone, she wants to do some eventing in the futre on her, i just didnt want to ask questions there and then to look silly i guess i will just watch and learn and listern hard!
Oh, she sounds like a brilliant person to learn from then
You can always ask your friend quietly if you are worried about it but asking lots of questions is the best way to learn
Maybe ask her before what she will be looking out for, see how you think it fits the bill and then talk to her about it afterwards and get her to say why it was or was not suitable. Explain to her that you really want to learn about it, she will be pleased to explain I would think
cool i just didnt want to ask so meny questions when we are there, when i had someone view alfie she was running with hands down his back eaither side, standing at his bum i didnt ask why as i didnt want to look stupid, but i knew there was nothing wrong with him as i had the back lady out and she said hes fine...
what i really wanted to know is do you do the same walk and trot up and down, feeling legs etc as you do when viewing a horse?
Confirmation - look into typical WB faults and look for those (most breeds have a few) then general all round confirmation. Straight legs, flat bone, everything is in proportion (not a long back, nor a short one, big front end, weak back , huge long neck, poor backend, small chest, etc) despite being a 3 yr old the horse should be built well and the basics there for a good riding horse.
Movement - straightness, look how the horse places its feet, ease of movement, a three yr has no reason to have any specific problems as they have not been spoilt by man, if above is all correct (confirmation), this will show in the movement. WBs are known to toe in slightly. Young unbalanced horses may track wide from behind, this will tighten, and is better than a horse that is too close as there is a risk of the hinds brushing/knocks etc or cause further problems, they may also over reach, again not a major issue.
Soundness/Condition - if the horse is underweight, there could be a good reason so bear this in mind, if the horse is in good condition the chances are it has had a good diet received the nutrition it needed when it was younger, if they have not had a good start in life it usually shows up (growth/maturity for the age) . Have a good feel around, look for lumps and bumps, splits etc Feet should in be in good nick, lack of a good trimming in the horses younger years may be have caused some minor issues that may be sorted with a good farrier.
Temperament - kind face is usually a kind animal in most cases however look for a good temperament, a relaxed horse, but one that looks interested and alert. No taking on a youngster on that has a permanent chip on there shoulder, youd only be making life harder when you start training them.
Paperwork make sure the jabs are up to date, you are shown all relevant paper work, you look at the passport and check it goes with the horse.
Breeding Do some digging about the parents, the competition record as chances are if they have successfully competed, the offspring will do, due to temperament/soundness due to good confirmation (for example string hault can be passed down) so thats why all the above is important in the parents as well as what your looking at.
Ahh, just wanted to make sure you knew!!! Otherwise, when you open your livery yard etc, you would end up with chickens instead!!! And watch out for those strangles too.....
im not opening a livery yard i just wanted to know how people go about opening a business as i can dream! if thats ok with you... jesus it seems you think im some kind of 12 yearold kid, im not so stop talking to me like im a twat and talk to me like im an adult thanks!

Sammie, do you not see that it is language like this that make you come across as 12?
I must admit that until I saw you post about having a child, I thought you were a youngster too.
Sammie I obviously didn't see your first post, but given the problems you have had with Alfie, if you are thinking about getting a three year old please think again. Unless you have lots of experience of bringing on young horses, which I don't think from previous posts you have, I'd strongly suggest you look at an older Schoolmaster to build your confidence and learn on before thinking about a youngster.
In defence to Sammie - she can post what she likes whether it be dreaming acting 12 or just purely being inquisitive. Other people however dont need to be so blatantly rude - but then some come on here for just that reason!! If its crap then dont answer, dont be rude just for the sake of it it shows a far uglier person than someone posting shite
Sammie - I think you have too much time on your hands and wondered if youd like to walk my dog?
lol no thanks im not really one for dogs, and im looking after my 20month old girly altho all shes doing is watching my friends tigger and pooh and playing with her choo choo lol
thanks for sticking up for me though, iv seen worst posts then mine but they never seem to get stick for it oh well i wont ask for advise anymore. xx
