Hi there, i am regrettably having to put my 7 yr old 15.2 irish mare out on loan as have loads of dets gathering round my neck, had to move to a new yard as last yard owner unfortunately passed away and new yard is much more expensive.
My mare has really good bloodlines and will make a super eventer/ show jumper so i want to be really careful with this loan. People interested seem lovely, chatted on phone and facebook and looked at all there pics etc and they have mine too, they are trying her this sat and going to take to there yard (an hr away) same day for a 2 week trial so as i am new to this loaning lark i need a few pointers to put in an agreement so that they dont do something stupid like sell her behind my back!! Anyone who has loaned horses before i would be very greatful for some advice. Many thanks.

Just what I'm looking for, wish I'd found your advert first!!

When I have loaned I have always used the BHS loan contract and adapted to suit, it's available on the BHS website. If you can't find it, PM me your email and I'll send you a copy.

i made up my own loan agreement. It said that they were in charge of the daily care of my horse and I listed what in my opinion was good daily care ie fed, groomed, water, provided with shelter, make sure no lumps or bumps etc. Then I stated that they were also incharge of the health and welbeing in general i.e vet treatment when nessessary, vacs, dentist, shoes, ect.
I then said that the loanee or/and someone working on behalf of the loanee could not loan out or sell my horse. I said the same about his equiptment (it couldnt be sold or used on another horse). If any of his equiptment was broken or damaged due to neglect - then the equiptment must be replaced with something of equal or higher value.

Also you must state than you should be able to vist without prior notice to make sure the horse is ok and if you feel in your opinion it is not being cared for you can take immediate custody of the horse. That pretty much coves every thing in my agreement. If you PM ur e-mail address i can send u a copy.
