So with all the horrid wet windy weather the ponies are having to stay in more than normal.

So they have a treat ball each... The hexaganol ones they nudge round to knock the treats out..

Both ponies need to watch there weight ( one lami prone and has soaked weighed hay etc so carefully monitored)

Now I don't know much about different feeds etc...

But what would you/ do you put into your treat balls ( bearing in mind low calorie!!)

Mince pies and mulled wine to all :)

I put the cheap horse and pony nuts in. Apart from chaff and balancer that's the only hard feed they get. I don't put much in as mine tend to play with them even when empty (living in hope I think!)

Mine has been on box rest so have had to be careful with what I put in it as too many nuts make him go ummm nuts!

I've padded out a small number of nuts with hi-fi light and then added some peppermint essence to make it more exciting.

I just used to put pony nuts and a handful of chaff in to make it last a bit longer, my horse can empty one of those in about 5 minutes flat.

I think the red round treatballs are better, with only a few nuts coming out at a time. With the hexagonal ones, loads seem to come out at the same time so they don't last very long at all.

Hi, I've used these for long box rest. Very handy for the hexagonal "balls" as they are much much bigger than normal cubes, say about the size of the top of a finger and so don't fall out too quickly even without chaff/wisps of hay added. I liked the fact that they have no vitamins etc so won't upset the balance of your normal feed. Apparently they're yummy too!

Mine is the one made by the Likit people so has a small hole with lid the other side, he just has most of his evening pasture cubes in there

He absolutely loves it and will look for it if it isn't there, he will also use that before his feed.

When I first gave it to him expected him to be terrified of it as he is of most things but he knew what ignorance wad straight away!

My lad is a complete and utter gannet, but totally ignores his treat ball... any tips on getting him to play with it?

As per my above post expected my nervy Welsh cob to be terrified of it but he loved it. With yours it may be worth crouching down with the ball and moving it around a bit in front of him and showing him the nuts that come out so he gets the gist of what it does?

Just watch he doesn't lift his front leg to rock it like my old loan pony used to!

Fibre nuts as well.
We bought the treat ball for his Xmas present last year, I thought it was a waste of money as like others have said I thought he would be scared of it but daughter insisted. First time he had it he didn't know what to do with it so daughter rolled it around the stable floor and he munched up the treats, second time he stood looking at daughter waiting for her to roll it and when she didn't he gave her a big nudge to get her to do it, anyway now his got the hang of it and loves it.

I use the Bailey's fibre nuggets as well - love them. I used raw carrot once, and it wouldn't come out - YO heard banging in the middle of the night and thought something was colicking so he's never had it again!

My pony has one but the nuts don't come out fast enough for her, so she rolls it once and if nothing comes out she gives up and heads for her hay net! :D Far too clever.....
