What to put on a cut leg

My horse has cut his blooming leg and I'm just worried about what to put on... Ever since I have had him he's never done anything. He's been at my friends stables but he's going home in the next hour.

It's about 2 - 3cm wide and has a flab of skin coming off (not huge, but abit gross)... This is on his shin

He's also got a small one underneath his chestnut on his front leg about 3cm lengtg 0.5 mm wide, this one looks abit gooey, I'll take a photo and try and upload it when I get him own.

What do you think????

Shall I keep him in tonight or let him stay out???

I went to an equine wound seminar & they basically said lots of clean or sterile water. They said to throw away all the wound sprays, powders etc as they force bacteria back into the wound . X

cold hose the wound and if you can mix some warm water and salt in a bottle that you can squirt on to the wound and pat dry, turn out.

If it was mine for extra caution I would tetcin spray (purple spray it) but my vet always said if it is a fleshy wound then put a cream on then tetcin spray over that, so not dry the wound out too quickly, if it is just a graze then tetcin spray is fine.

I agree with above not to fiddle,but if we have flies around I personally would put some sudocreme on or vaseline, but I think the flies are not around with all this rain? I have used Iodine spray too(betadine)(it will go a bit green looking with the iodine...which can be a bit of a worry..but its normal). But when mine got a nasty cut from a kick(fur flying etc on shin, became swollen for a few days)

I boiled kettle and dissolved some salt in the water. Let it cool and used gauze to gently wipe over, you could use a clean syringe etc to flush it. I leave for air to get to it and ours lived out 24/7 so we just would do once a day. Flies were the problem though mid summer.

Good luck. Just make sure temperature stays normal but as long as horse seems happy etc common sense.
