ello,
I have just taken a purebred Welsh D on loan. On her advert it states she has won 2 championships at M&M working hunter, and with this knowledge in mind, I'd love to start showing with her, perhaps getting to some top shows :)

However, I haven't the slightest idea of what I'm doing- which class should I take her in, and what will we be expected to do and wear? Could anybody shed some light on the situation please?

The horse...
15hh
Welsh D
6yo
Brave, flashy jumper
Brilliant flatwork!

The rider (me :) )...
16yo
United Kingdom
The owner is over 18yo

Thank you for your help!!

Large M&M, M&M workers (again large breeds), can also do things like best condition, turnout, etc. Some larger shows will have breed specific classes and it's worth seeing what your local WPCS Society has in the way of breed shows.

For natives it's tweed and beige/cream breeches - not white, dark gloves. Shirt and tie, no spurs. Single plait (not rolled up) behind the bridle. Tack should be plain and workmanlike - no bling!

This is me and my section D back when we showed...

as above except the plait is entirely optional and TBH a bitout of favor in the D's at the moment.
Jods should be canary and gloves always brown!
Hair in a bun, sew up the tails on your hat.

This is me on a section D i've shown

Its not mandatory to wear a pelham but it is more "correct" and you'll find very few in just a snaffle (don't use any other type of bit like a dutch gag or anything, that would be very wrong!). If you're doing novice M&M classes then you can be in a snaffle but as yours has won already, you'll probably go straight into opens which is when you would always wear a pelham / double. Same goes with M&M WH. I never did the plait thing BTW when I showed my Welsh D.

Tweed jacket, brown tack and everything understated. Pelham or double isn't mandatory but you'll find that nearly all will be in it in open classes. However, I took mine in medal shows and a hoys flat class this year in his snaffle as he wasn't ready for more of a bit. The medal show judges liked that he was in a snaffle and the hoys judge seemed indifferent. But he was the only one in a snaffle!! We're going to school in a double over the winter though. I don't do the plait thing but mine has a pulled mane.

Brilliant thank you for your help :) I currently have black boots and leather half chaps, will I need to get brown boots? Also, are half chaps correct? Sorry about all these questions!

Black long boots is correct.
No to half chaps. You can get away with leather gaitors if they look like black leather long boots.
