Hi
I am going to a local show this weekend and I have entered my 14.2hh grey connemara who is 19 into a ridden veteran:
She has a black gp saddle and a black bridle with drop noseband and 3 ring gag bit but I am having it on snaffle for showing. I was going to put a thin plain white numnah under the saddle. black girth and no boots on legs.
Is this ok??

Also, she has a neatly pulled mane - could it go loose? It's quite short. And she has a nice full tail which i will try and make white for the big day :) Is this ok or will i NEED to plait?

Finally onto me - Will a tweed hacking jacket -
white stock shirt and ready tied stock gold and red spotted with a gold stock pin do?

http://www.barnstormers.co.uk/acatalog/SHIRES_LADIES_HUNTINGDON_SHOW_JACKET.html - in green with red over check sort of colour (don't think it's in that pic)

I could wear either white jods, beidge jods or these http://www.robinsons-uk.com/product...arentGroupCode=0101&groupCode=01102#sku.23436 (canary / champagne coloured jods )

champion ventair black skull cap with black skull cap cover?

Black boots with black leather gaiters?

Ok and What do you have to do in a veteran showing class?

thanks so much - sorry it's long .x

Not sure I'm the best person to answer this but I thought I'd bump you up a bit :)

When I did veteran showing on a 23 yr old New Forest I had:
Brown leather saddle with white saddle cloth and leather girth.
Brown snaffle bridle, plain noseband and plain reins
Tweed hacking jacket
Beige jodphurs
White shirt and white stock
Jockey skull with brown velvet.
Brown jodphur boots
She was unplaited, but neat and tidy

(looking back at that list I'm not sure I was in any way correctly attired, but I don't recall feeling out of place in the ring)

If I remember rightly it was pretty much like "regular" showing. Ride round as a group in walk, trot & canter on both reins, get pulled in to the middle, do an individual show. Some classes then got us to un-saddle, stand-up for the judge then walk and trot in-hand.

BTW I should point out, I wasn't particularly successful at showing - on the most memorable occasion I'd taken her to a show with her son and she spent the entire time in the ring napping, rearing, screaming and generally misbehaving. We were given a place (5th) because "she had character!"

Good luck with your show!

If its local show then I wouldn't worry too much or spend a whole pile of money.

If its an affiliated VHS class then it is different.

Go onto the VHS website and look in the rule book - it tells you exactly how to turn out your horse and yourself and what is and is not acceptable tack etc and in your show.

As a general rule of thumb for veteran showing you turn out as per your type/breed

Therefore as you have a connie you would turn out as per how you would turn her out for an M & M class

Again for local level it wont matter too much the colour of tack however a gag would probably be commented on for a flat class no mater what ring you have it on - a pelham would be better - be again local level you are going to enjoy yourself so if this is what you feel comfortable using then go with it

Good luck :D
