Hello All,

I have agreed to do some dressage writing at the Midland Championships next weekend and I've just had my car pass through for 'Officials and Guests' oooh. I had a letter with it that says that 'a smart dress code needs to be observed on the day and for those working during the evening performance formal evening attire is required'. I have done lots of writing before but this sounds a bit serious - will I be ok in my Joules jeans (they look more like navy trousers) and my Dubarrys (clean) and a smart jumper? I'm not a scruffy person anyway - do you think it just means don't turn up in trackie bottoms with your boots covered in horse ***** or am I meant to be really posh?

I don't think I am working the evening but what would you wear on the evening :O am imagining people running in to put poles up in big frocks lol.

Thanks Everyone

I'm not sure you'd stand out enough in jeans, jumper and Dubarry's, you'd probably look more like a spectator.
I stewarded at a CHAPS Championship show and went for black trousers, white shirt and short boots. At least that way, competitors had an idea that I was there in an official capacity and could be approached to ask questions.

Maybe give them a ring to clarify their preference :).

That sounds okay to me...

I'd layer the top half if you can, simply because of the barking mad British weather :D

A nice blouse/shirt, a decent jumper/cardigan/jacket.

As to the evening wear, do you have such thing as a frilly blouse/top? And a good necklace/earrings? Something that you can move in, won't get damaged easily, and has more of an evening look?

Whatever you wear, it sounds great fun and I hope you have an excellent time :D

My YO has some black hunters with studs on..........maybe I could borrow those. Maybe they should put in the letter exactly what you are meant to wear as I'm going to feel a right numpty if I look wrong. Maybe I should try and find an email address......

I'd contact the secretary or chief steward to see what they suggest - surely if you are writing for a dressage judge you will just be sat in their car during the day? I wouldn't dust off the family jewels and get your Granny's fur stole out just yet!
