As the post suggests, what is recommended to be worn for best turned out classes ?

Also which tack to use? Snaffle bridle etc, dressage saddle or a GP?

All advice welcomed.

Whatever tack you normally ride in, just make sure it's as clean as you can get it and in good repair (may help you decide what to choose!) Whatever jacket is appropriate - just be as clean and smart as you can.

Good Luck

Best turned out... Navy / black jacket, cream breeches, shirt, tie / stock, and long boots.
Neddy: neutral tack, (plain) with maybe a nice browband (no bling sorry Fee

) perhaps a black numnah. Plaited up and polished to a tee. Saddle, go for GP, and any bit.

jacket depends on the horse but a black jacket is never correct and stocks are only correct in an evening preformances

If your horse can deal with one a doubke bridle with flat hunter noseband and plain browband suits most horses, if horsey is a finer type then you can have a coloured (ribbon with sides) browband.
horse and tack should be immaculate and dont forget the little things like quatermarks, oiling the inside of the hoof, cleaning the underneath of your stirrup irons, get som one to wipe the bottom of your boots when you are on board.
judges will run hands through tails and down legs so no oils on the legs or inb the tail as judges hate getting covered in oil.
correct number of plaits with straight divides and well sewn in (no bands) pulled tail that is banged at the bottom.
a little bit of oil on the face of the horse to highlight the eyes and muzzle.
also make sure under the tail is cleaned and a little bit of baby oil makes it look very clean (applied with a sponge of course)

Play safe and wear a tweed jacket and go for plain workmanlike tack unless you have a showy TB hack/riding horse or show pony type in which case you can use a velvet browband and a navy jacket.

Hat should be navy or brown but never black. Gloves should be brown/tan. Beige or canary jods. If you wear long boots on a horse you should have garter and spurs (or dummy ones).

Clean everything, then do it again - I would spend over an hour on my saddle and bridle. Clean under the saddle, stirrups - they will often look everywhere. Try to avoid a numnah but if you do, discrete as possible and not a mark on it. Make sure keepers are even and nothing is put on incorrectly, make sure curb chains lay flat.

Plaits must be perfect, tails plaited or well pulled, quarter marks and sharks teeth if appropriate should be done by hand and not a template. Sometimes they have plaited and non-plaited classes. I have done well with my TBs and my gypsy cob - but her hair was snowy white and not a knot in sight or stain on her feather.

Clothes - not a speck of mud, hair or anything - have someone clean under your boots when you are mounted and go round doing a final check. I have had my gloves and hat removed and checked. Hair in a bun or at very least netted. Remove jewellary and minimal makeup.

Tie pin, show cane and if appropriate discrete buttonhole are also point scorers.

Finally I used to do this - would spend hours getting everything perfect and after a while you can end up insane as you have to be a perfectionist and often judges will have different views.

i have a brown tweed, what colour hat cover should i wear - i've always used black, also i want to get a proper show 1 with flesh coloured harness but navy would look out of place & do many companies do brown?
