I'm doing a local show and I have entered the riding horse class. I have a tweed jacket, beige jodhpurs, black boots, a navy hat and two ties a red one with grey stripes or a purple one- which would be best? For my horse I have three bits , a lozenge snaffle, a Waterford snaffle and a Waterford Pelham- which would be best? I also have a standard brown saddle and various numnahs, I have a white one and a purple one and a navy saddle pad- which would be best? Also as it is only a local show could I use a whip (I have a short and long one) and for the show will I need to gallop? Thank you in advance! :D :o

I would get a brown numnah to match the saddle, white is ok if the horse is grey but otherwise is not correct and purple/ navy saddle pads are a definite no, use nothing if you don't want to buy or cannot borrow something suitable.

What colour is your browband? usually the tie needs to match or tone in with that so if it has red in it use the red if purple or blue use the purple one. If you are not using a velvet browband, plain will be ok although most will be in one, then wear whichever tie you prefer, probably the red will look better and more traditional.

A waterford has no place in the show ring, so whichever the horse goes best in out of the snaffle or pelham.

You should carry a show cane but at local level a short whip will be ok.

You will probably be asked to extend in the group and should show an extension in the individual show, keep it contained it is not a hunter class so should be more of a decent extended canter.

Thank you very much! :) she has a plain browband will see if I can borrow a brown saddle pad as i have a bay or i may just use nothing.

For riding horse a velvet browband is correct, if you can beg/borrow one you'll look better presented. Don't use saddle pads, only numnahs for showing, they should be brown and discrete, the aim is to show off as much of your horse as possible.

Agree red tie will look better. Think smart and traditional.

Good luck!

Echo others, a coloured velvet brownband is correct for RH classes and never a saddle pad - only ever a discrete numnah or nothing.

I've never carried a cane, only ever a brown tidy show whip :)
